"They're like us," I whispered and looked at the two kids that were chained up to the wall. Neither of them were moving; perhaps they had been killed.
"I thought we were the only ones," Brady murmured and looked at the boy and girl intently, "perhaps no one knew about them?"
"They must've been a secret," James concluded as we continued to stare at the two figures.
The girl had bright gold wings like the sun and the boy's was silver. Neither of them looked related to each other but you never knew what they could've done to alter their appearances.
"Let's try and get them off those chains," Nel suggested and walked over to the girl first.
"Wait," Brady said grabbing her arm, "they could be fake or be a trap."
"Brady they're helpless, let's at least get them out of the shackles first before making assumptions," she reprimanded him and pulled at the links.
James went over to her side and helped pull out the cuffs while laying her down on the ground. The boy's head rose up when they made their way over to him.
"Who are you?" he asked in fear.
"We're here to help you," Penelope reassured him as they undid his cuffs.
The boy landed roughly and rubbed his wrists, "I didn't know there were others like me."
"We didn't know either," she replied and looked at the girl, "do you know her?"
"Not at first no, we just ended up here and became friends since we both had wings you know? I guess we had been created in different facilities."
"Created?" I asked.
"Yea, I'm pretty sure I was created from some kind of cell mutation thing. Isn't that how you guys were formed?"
"No... we were experimented on, our parents gave the consent to allow it," James said bitterly.
The boy looked at his feet, "at least you have parents."
We didn't say anything for a few minutes. I walked over to him and patted his shoulder, "what's your name?"
"Cedric, that's Tabitha over there."
"Is she dead?" Brady asked looking at her lifeless form.
"No, she's just really sick I think. They kept giving us some kind of serum to make us weak and her body reacted to it quicker than mine did. We need to leave before he comes back."
"He meaning Holster?" I asked.
"How did you know?" he said picking up Tabitha gently.
"Our mentor, Jeremiah, told us," Penelope explained as Brady took Tabitha into his arms to lighten Cedric's load.
"How old are you?" James asked as we walked towards the entrance.
"I'm eighteen, she's seventeen I believe."
"Cool," James replied and we all stopped when we heard clanging in the room next to us.
Cedric threw his wings out and whispered, "let's fly out the window it'll be easier."
Right as the door opened we took off and shattered a few windows while making an escape route. There was commotion behind us but no one bothered to look back as we kept flapping our wings, trying to put distance between us and the building.
"Nel won't we need to go back and defeat him?"
"Yes, but right now we need answers from Jeremiah on why there's more of us and we didn't know sooner. Someone isn't telling us everything they know and it's about time they started talking."
** This story will be ending soon! :( sorry to those who really liked it. Maybe later on I'll pick it back up and write a sequel. But I promise to go back and develop Penelope's and Brady's relationship better when I can! :) **
