-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Everyone that comes through your small bookstore, you know personally, all except for him. Being a small store and everything gave you the opportunity to get to know your customers. What kind of books they like, ones they hated, and ones they look at every time they come in but never had the guts to pick it up and read it. He was different.

He never came in for one thing. A week ago, you never saw his face anywhere in your life. Twice a day this gorgeous man would come in, pick a book, sit in his little corner, and read it front to back. Always a book, never the same genre. He never talked to anyone, never seemed as if he had the time. It's the only reason why you hadn't gone over to him in the first place.

He seemed so lost in his tiny world, you were afraid of bursting it with your curiosity. He must be new to town since you've never seen him in your bookstore before. Someone who does that much reading, you would have at least noticed.

One of your dreams growing up was to own a bookstore. It didn't matter how small or big it was. Actually, the smaller the better. It allowed for more interaction with your customers. Due to living in a small town, you had the advantage of already knowing your customers. This way, you were able to dig deeper.

Another reason for wanting a bookstore of your own was for the lives you've changed. That student with their paper, they are able to find books that big libraries wouldn't have on call. That little girl whose book means everything to her, it's only found here due to it being so old. That someone trying to get away from their home life can read in the cozy section you made up so that they could feel like this was their second home. That group of kids the old woman reads to, they are learning that reading isn't all textbooks and homework; it can be fun too. They're all connected in your mind.

All except for him.

"Do you know that gentleman?" you asked Shelly, the woman who came by every day to return her late books that you so graciously let her keep overdue. She's having a hard time at home with her husband dying about a month ago, so you try to keep her life as stressless as possible.

"No, I'm afraid I'm not," she said as she shakily handed over her books. There were more overdue, but you didn't say anything about it.

"Have you seen him before?"

"I thought I saw him walking out of city hall the other day. But, I could be mistaken."

"Thanks, Shelly. You doing okay?"

"As can be expected. You're a good soul, Y/N. One of the good ones," she smiled kindly as she left the store. Looking back at the man, you caught him looking back at you. Blushing, you looked away and busied yourself so that he wouldn't feel inclined to come over to you. Handsome or not, he is still a stranger you didn't know. For all you knew, he had a gun on him and would shoot the place up for you looking at him wrong.

"Excuse me?" the man asked as he approached the counter. Looking up, you put on your best face possible.

"Yes, can I help you?"

"Hi," he looked at your name tag with a smile before going back to your eyes, "Y/N. I'm looking for a book. It's a book about World War 2, especially the history of it in this town."

"You looking to brush up on some fun facts? You a history nerd?" you smiled once you felt the calming waves come from his body.

"I'm actually the new tour guide. I guess word travels fast in this small town. My job starts on Monday, and I really want to make sure I have everything memorized before I start," he chuckled nervously.

"You know, it's not fair you know my name and I don't know yours," you flirted.

"Alex. Alex Calvert," he laughed. "You live here long?"

"My whole life. I know this town like the back of my hand," you said, suddenly getting an idea.

"Lucky you."

"You know, they say the best way to learn is by doing. You can read all you want about my town, but you're not going to learn everything. Not everything is in those books. I could show you if you want. Give you a history lesson so to speak."

"A tour guide being the tourist," he laughed.

"So, is that a yes?"

"Yes, I'd really like that."

"Great. My shift is over in 30 minutes if you want to wait."

"My pleasure," he grinned, shaking your hand.
