"I got it!" one of your classmates yelled as she dove for the volleyball. For the last few weeks, Coach Ackles had the whole class playing volleyball which you sadly had to sit out on. Every time you came into class, you had to stare into his eyes as you handed the doctor's note you forged on the internet. It was amazing how much you can do online.

It's not that you didn't want to play, you were the undefeated champion on the girls' team outside of school. It's because you had a terrible accident that forced you to fear the one game you love. Seeing the smiles on the girls' faces when they got a point for their team or when the teammates got together to support one another made you sad to see, forcing you to remember what had happened all those years ago.

It was the end of the season, you were the best player on the team. Every hit, spike, and point you earned only gave you good press. Your mother was so proud of you, your coach had other coaches from serious teams there to watch you play, hoping they would want you to go to their colleges with a full ride when you were ready for them. Everything was going according to plan until the accident.

The other team had the right to serve, the game was going great, and when the ball was passed over to them, one of the girls went to spike it. It had been a close shot, you were the only one in range to be able to hit that. Confident in your ability to snag another point, you went to hit the ball, but unfortunately, you hesitated too long and the ball went straight for your knee. The girl who hit it had a nasty spike and with the force of the ball, it tore your ACL. Even after months and years of physical training, you could never play the same way again.

Seeing those girls play reminded you of yourself, and while you observed from the bleachers you couldn't help but see yourself in place of the girls. Ever since the accident, you've been too scared to try again. Maybe it was stupid, but you couldn't face staring down the ball once more.

"Feeling better?" Coach Ackles asked taking a seat next to you on the bleachers.

"Uh, no. Still pretty sick."

"You know, you're going to have to play some time. I can't keep benching you. It's not fair to the other girls."

"Speaking of, I am excused for another two days," you said as you pulled out the doctor's note from your backpack. He took it with a sigh without even looking at it.

"What's going on? You were fine when we played basketball, kickball, even when we ran the track."

"I guess I got the flu or something. Some virus. I don't know what to tell you."

"Y/N is something going on that I need to know?"

"No there isn't."

"Coach Ackles? Claire got hurt," one of the girls said. Coach was out of his seat immediately, and you stood up to see one of the best players on the ground clutching her knee.

"Coach! Y/N is hurt!"

"It hurts!" you cried, clutching your knee which was out of place. The rest of the group had formed a circle around you while the coach got on your level.

"You're going to be okay. I need to call the ambulance."

"I'll call your mom," your best friend said as she dialed her number.
