Summary: Your husband is good at what he does and you are just so proud of him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of Jensen's passions was his job. Being an archeologist gave him a lot of opportunities to travel the world, discover things that haven't been discovered yet, and even take home some really cool shit. With each and every dig, he got to bring home a little trinket to remind him of where he's been, what he's found. Your house is full of the memories from his job, and you love it.
Ancient treasures found in Egypt, some of which should be stored in a museum. His boss' tell him with each dig comes two option for him. It's either this or that, never both. He can keep a fraction of whatever he finds or get the money is which that item is worth. He never takes the money.
The items he collects are too precious not to keep. It gives your house a personality, his life a purpose. If he doesn't keep them, they will be stored in a museum. At least this way, he gets to show his friends what he found, lets them hold it, and tells them the history behind it. He's always said that it's better than say museum can offer.
Most of the items are statues of golden men with unique stories behind them, but some of them are paintings of history, bowls in which people ate from, fossils from long-extinct animals, even some religious items as well. Each of them tells a story, and when your friends come over to hang out, they always ask about Jensen, what kind of dig he has coming up and which artifacts are new.
You truly felt bad for your friends since they only see his job through his eyes. He tells them stories, shows them artifacts, but they truly don't know just how much he loves this job. One time, you were lucky enough to go on a small dig with him in the state. He had a whole preservation team with him, but he did most of the work. The smile on his face and the excitement in his eyes was something to truly cherish.
He's done some amazing things, and you are so proud of him. He went to college for this sort of thing, and the fact that he gets to live his dream is extraordinary. Not everyone can be as lucky as he is. You went to school for English to be an author, but the best you can do is editing which isn't a bad job. You still got to read amazing stories, edit and pick which ones get to be published, but you really would love a best seller. Just one. Jensen is so supportive of your dreams just like you are to his.
Right now, he was currently out on a small dig that was in the state in which you lived. It was pretty far, but you wanted to wait up for him since he would be returning home. He decided to go at this one alone because he told you that he had a special feeling with this one and wanted to discover it all by himself.
He's been gone a good portion of the day, but you were just about to cook dinner so it could be ready for him when he got home. You were cooking his favorite meal since he's been working so hard to preserve human history. Getting up, you were just about to take out the ingredients when the front door slammed open. Jensen came rushing in with a huge smile on his face as if he just discovered the origins of the universe.
"Whoa, easy there. You gave me a heart attack," you laughed as you clutched your chest.
"So sorry," he muttered as he kissed you hello. "Have you started dinner?"
"No, I was just about to. Wait, weren't you supposed to be home later?"
"I found something really cool. I wanted to show you before I go to my boss. It's really something to be excited about."
"No dinner?"
"I got that covered. Come on," he grinned before taking your purse off the counter. There was no stopping him when he got like this. It was like he was a kid on Christmas and he just got a new puppy. Laughing, you followed him out to the car. Once you were both inside, he took off down the road, eager to show you what he found.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The car ride ran longer than you expected. When he said he was digging in the state, you thought he was going up north which was only a few hours away. This car ride lasted about 5, and despite you telling your body to fight it, you fell asleep to the soft waves of the road.
Jensen knew how far this was and hated taking you all the way out here at such a late hour, but he was really excited about his find. There could be more to uncover that could lead to a new history being discovered about the area hundreds of years ago.
After parking, he looked at you in silence. He was grateful for having you here with him, supporting him in whatever he was doing. He was the lucky one in this relationship to have such a loving and supportive wife. Reaching over, he moved some hair away from your eyes in an attempt to wake you up.
"Y/N, sweetheart," he whispered.
"Yeah?" you muttered, moving your head to his side and opening your eyes.
"We're here. I know it was a long car ride, but I promise it's worth it."
"There better be some food. I'm starving," you yawned as the two of you got out of the car. He parked in the middle of nowhere next to a huge hole in the ground. Enough for two people to fit into.
"Where does this lead to?" you asked as you took the stairs that were forged more than a hundred years ago.
"You'll see. I promise it'll be worth it," he said as he took the lead. The stairs opened up to a larger room that looked to be a living room. There were dusty chairs and tables along with a bar and some shelves. If you had to guess, this room was a cafe of some sorts or maybe even a bar. One of the tables had a clean tablecloth over it and some food which you suspected that Jensen placed there.
"I found this room along with a back room which was meant for storage. This may have been a bar at some point and if I had to guess, there is a whole underground city here. This could be one of the biggest digs I've had in a while. A lot of American cultures could be stored down here. Dust storms may have covered this place up, but I found it," he grinned.
"Baby, that's amazing. Shouldn't you tell your boss about this? I mean, should we be in here?"
"Yeah, it's fine. No one has to know. Plus, we will need a lot more than my guys to uncover what's been buried. But, right now, dinner. I promised you food and here it is," he led you to the table. The old chairs have been moved out of the way and have been replaced with foldable ones.
"Nice chairs," you teased as you sat down.
"The old ones would have collapsed at the first sign of contact. These were a much better solution," he chuckled. The light down here was dim which gave the perfect setting to the date.
"This is amazing. I am so proud of you," you smiled, grabbing his hand lovingly.
"Thanks, it means a lot."
"What have you cooked this time?" you asked after a few moments of staring into each other's eyes. This may be one of the biggest digs he's had in a while, but right now, it's one of the romantic dates the two of you shared. There is no other man you've rather spend your life with than him.
