Hitting Reset Season 6: The Pandemic Begins

First Transport/Drop Off

Hawkins' POV: Once me and Dawson were in the back, I went to slip in and watched as Gabby got to work. "Get the air ready and the bag for me. I don't take long to get in." I agreed with Gabby when she told me that, watching her get to work. Moving to the patients' head, she bent down and then went to work. "Just be careful." Gabby then spoke up. "I crouch down to my boys all the time. I'm fine. Just relax." I agreed with her when she told me that. "Sorry Chief." I shook my head. "It's okay. You know your limitations and that's fine." Going to look at me. "I'm in."

I agreed and just gave her the tube while Violet started to drive off. Going to slip the tub in, Gabby just went to attach it to the patients' mouth before getting up. "Attach the bag." I agreed and then went to do just that for her. Grabbing the heart monitors, Gabby then went to go attach the stickers on the patients' chest to check his HR. "Okay, slow and steady there. We got a weak pulse." I agreed and then went to look at her. "Take a breath Dawson, just let instinct take over. I know you're worried." Gabby agreed with me when I said that and took a breath. 

Turning her head, she went to check the HR. "Uhm, I think he's okay for now. We got him breathing and at 89/110." I agreed with her when she said that. That's when I felt Violet turn pretty fast and I went to hold on. "Dang, that's fast." Gabby nodded and agreed with me when I said that. "Yeah, we go fast in ambo 61." I just agreed with her when she told me that and smiled. "So, you glad to be back?" Gabby sighed when I asked her that. "Honestly, It's a little worrying. But, I'm back because I can't just sit by and not help during the pandemic. It's not me." I agreed.

"Yeah, I was thinking of doing rounds every shift. I want to be the best help that I can." Gabby agreed with me when I said that. "Well, you can try and get the CFD to approve more paramedics. I'm pretty sure that people are going to get tired. The stuff doesn't look good. I have connections with a bunch of medics from my time in Puerto Rico." Hawkins agreed with me when I said that. "Right, I heard about that. You went to Puerto Rico didn't you?" I nodded and agreed with him when he asked me that. "Yeah, during the summer of 2018. Seems a lifetime ago."

I nodded and agreed with Gabby when she said that. "I bet it does. Are things better there?" Gabby sighed when I asked her that. "I spoke to some of my friends there and they are not doing as good. The hospitals still aren't the best and they are making due with what they have." I agreed with her when she said that. "However, there is a bunch of things that I would love to propose to you. I am not sure if you got that e-mail I sent to you last year. About the paramedicine?" I was shocked when Gabby told me that. "That was you?" She agreed, smiling.

"Yeah, we can talk about it another time." That's when we both felt Violet turn again. "Well, that's if we don't get another call." Gabby then looked up at me when I said that. "You just really need to work in firehouses more often. You don't say that ever on shift...now we're going to be called our the minute that we are done dropping off the patient." That's when I heard Violet. "We're 2 minutes out from McCormick Place." Gabby agreed with Violet when she said that. "Got it Violet. BTW can you explain to your boyfriend what not to say at a firehouse!"

That's when I heard Matt speak to Gabby. "He didn't!" I laughed and agreed. "Yep, we're cursed. 2 minutes from McCormick." Matt agreed with me when she told him that. "Good. Meet us at 324 Grand Ave after. Huge mansion."  That's when I spoke to Matt. "Chief Casey, when I get there...I'll take control of Ambulance." He agreed with me when I said that. "Of course. I got it for now." I agreed and then took a breath as I looked at Gabby. "We're here guys. Let's get out so that we can get to the fire."  Watching as Violet came to open the door, I went to push the patient.

Meanwhile, Gabby got out too. "Where are you going?" Gabby then looked at me. "I'm going to get the stuff we need to restock before the fire." I agreed with her when she told me that and then proceeded to walk into the McCormick Place hospital with both of Ambo 61's paramedics. Walking in, Violet went to speak up. "April!" April then looked at her when she said that. "COVID." I then went to speak up. "HR is 89/110. Breathing but unconscious. Wife is at home. Here's her phone number." She agreed and nodded as she walked up to me. "Thanks Chief Hawkins."

Leading us both towards a bay, I just took a breath as we both went to walk in. "Okay, on my count." I then went to listen to April. "1, 2, LIFT!" We all did as we were told and then went to set her down. I then proceeded to just grab the gurney. "I'll go get the new gurney and leave this for cleaning." April agreed with me when I said that. "Take pack I. It's a new intubation kit." I agreed with her when she said that before walking over to the storage closet. That's when I saw Gabby. "April said to grab pack I." Gabby turned to look at me when I said that and agreed with me.

"Perfect. I was thinking that we were going to need that since you intubated the last patient." I agreed with her. "Gurneys?" Gabby then went to point. "Over there." I smiled and agreed before going to walk away to get one. "You did good on your first call Dawson." She smiled and agreed with me when I told her that. "Thanks Chief."  I agreed with Gabby and just smiled while going to grab a new gurney when I heard Casey speak to me. "Hawkins?" I then went to go speak to him. "Go ahead Casey." He then took a breath. "I need reinforcements. I just called in a second firehouse. I'm going to need at least 3-4 more ambulances for a total of 6 including ours." 

I agreed with her when she said that. "Chief Hawkins to Dispatch." Dispatch then spoke to me. "Go ahead Chief." I agreed. "Redirect all available ambulances in the area to 324 Grand Ave. Chief Casey is temporarily in charge." They agreed with me. "Got it Chief, doing that now." I agreed with them and then took a breath as I went to grab a new gurney. Once that was done, I went to walk over to the door to see Gabby and Violet walking out. "Let's get going." They both agreed with me when I said that. "Gabby, you're standing back at the fire. It's your first."

Gabby agreed with me when I said that. "Of course Chief." Walking out together, we all went to leave the hospital to go to the fire.
