Hitting Reset Season 6: The Pandemic Begins

Chapter 367

Matt's POV: Once me and Gabby sat up in bed a bit more, I sighed because I missed Herrmann's call. "Well, looks like I missed his call." Gabby nodded and agreed with me. "Just call him back." I nodded and smiled when Gabby told me that. "You know, I like sitting up this much. How about you come lay down on me now?" Gabby laughed and agreed with me when I asked her that, coming to do just that for me. Going to tug the covers up, I smiled as I wrapped my arm around her back and then kissed the top of her head. "So comfortable." Gabby smiled and agreed with me when I told her that, obviously feeling the same way. That's when I went to call Herrmann.

Putting it on speakerphone right away, I smiled as I waited for him to answer....and that's when he did just that. "Hey Chief. Seems like we just missed each other." I agreed with him when he said that. "Yeah, we were just getting comfortable. What's up Herrmann?" Herrmann laughed when I asked him that. "I was just calling to check on you guys. I know how hard it is to see your kid at the hospital...I mean, I've done it countless times with my kids being monkeys and all." I laughed when he said that. "Well, things are much better. All the kids are currently just relaxing on the bed and watching a bit of Disney. Meanwhile, me and Gabby are relaxing in bed."

Herrmann agreed with me when I told him that. "Well, that's good. So, are we expecting you guys back next shift?" I agreed with him and then took a breath. "Just need to be even more careful now. Let's just say it's been a hard 24 hours in our place." Herrmann got scared when I told him that. "Oh no, are one of the kids hurt? Or do they have COVID?" I shook my head. "Ok, that is not something I want to think about. But the truth is...I just got news that my sister has cancer." Herrmann got scared when I told him that. "Oh god, I'm so sorry Matt. Is she going to be okay?" I agreed with him. "Yeah. But they moved in so that I can help her with her daughter."

Herrmann agreed with me when I said that. "That's nice of you guys. I swear, you guys are like the most kind and caring people I have ever met." Gabby smiled when he said that. "Awe, I can say the same about you Herrmann." I smiled and agreed with Gabby when she said that. "I mean, they do call you the heart and soul of Firehouse 51 for a reason." Herrmann laughed. "Well thanks guys. I'm just glad that your kids are doing better and I hope it stays that way." I agreed with him. "Gabby's mom just brought him in as a precaution. He's completely fine." Herrmann agreed. "Probably for the best. I am just glad that you took the time off."

I laughed when he said that. "Trust me, us not leaving shift was never an option. By the way, who ended up taking over for me?" Herrmann then laughed. "Boden put Severide in Charge. So, he was acting Chief. But Chief Hawkins ended up staying too. I think he ended up really taking charge. Heck, I think he even stayed in your bed last night with Violet." I agreed with him when he said that. "I swear, they better not have had sex in our bed." Gabby laughed when I said that. "Baby, I'm pretty sure that we are the only ones who will ever have sex at the firehouse." I turned to look at Gabby when she said that. "Did you really just say that while we're on the phone..."

Herrmann then laughed. "I already heard it...you can't deny it anymore. Did you guys really do that?" I just sighed and agreed with him. "Shower." Herrmann was shocked. "So that's where you guys always snuck off to when you first got together. By the way, I'm still glad that you're still together. I still think that you are both perfect for each other." I smiled and agreed with him when he said that. I then turned my head and looked at Gabby while smiling. "I feel the same way." Gabby just nodded and agreed with me when I told her that. Leaning in, she smiled as she went to kiss me softly. "I love you." I smiled and agreed with Gabby. "I love you too."

Herrmann just laughed. "Yes, we all know that you guys are crazy for each other...you don't have to prove that to us." I nodded and agreed with him when he said that. "No, I don't think we do. But still, I love saying I Love you to the woman I am absolutely crazy for." Gabby smiled and agreed with me when I said that. "By the way, you guys hear about the COVID numbers?" I nodded and then just took a breath. "Yeah, that's scaring me. Between the kids and then my sister...it's a lot to take in." Herrmann sighed when IT old him that. "You know that you can always lean on us right Matt. You are not alone in this ok?" I agreed with him when he told me that. "I know that I'm not...but thanks Herrmann." Herrmann agreed. "No problem Chief."

That's when I saw that I just got a text message from Antonio.

'Hey, Eva just told me that your sister has cancer? Is that true?'

Turning to look at Gabby, I took a breath. "Violet must've told Eva." Gabby agreed with me when I said that. "Listen Herrmann, we need to call my brother. It was nice talking to you." Herrmann agreed. "Want me to bring your favorites tonight?" I laughed and agreed. "Yes please. Talk later Herrmann." Her agreed with me before hanging up. I then turned to look at Gabby and sighed. "Time to call your brother." Gabby nodded and agreed with me when I said that.

After going to find Antonio's phone number, I took a breath and went to call him so that we could talk to him. I knew that he still cared for my sister and I knew that he must have questions. That's when he answered. "Hey Matt, how are your boys doing?" I smiled when he asked me that. "Noah's feeling much better. Thanks for asking. But listen, you said that Eva told you that my sister has cancer?" Antonio agreed. "Yeah, she learned from Violet." Gabby then went to speak to her brother. "Well, we can confirm that it's true." Antonio just sighed. "I'm so sorry Matt, is she..."

I then went to clear my through. "Yeah, she's going to fight it." Antonio agreed with me when It old him that. "I'm glad. I had a feeling that she would." I smiled. "Uhm, she's going to be living with us during the pandemic so that she's in our bubble. And of course, your mom can live here too at the same time." Antonio understood. "I am sure that she would love that. But, I was actually going to ask if she can stay with me Gabby." Gabby got concerned. "Antonio, why? You are out on the streets more." Antonio took a breath when Gabby asked him that.
