Devin went back to his office in his house. He liked the solitude it gave him. Devin, like Oliver, hasn't found his mate. Living outside of the pack house was rare for unmated wolves, but nothing about Devin was considered normal. Devin looked over the ring again and after committing it to memory, he started looking for books and scrolls from a few thousand years back. There were few, but after an hour of searching, he found the crest. He found two scrolls and one book with the same crest.
The ring belonged to the Alpha King Jareth. After reading over the information he found, he noticed there was a page missing from the book and the end of one of the scrolls was burned. Devin never noticed that before. The book only mentioned it belonging to the Alpha King and that it was removed from his corpse after he was killed for treason. The scrolls on the other hand, had a bit more to say. The one that was still intact provided an anecdote (a usually short narrative of an interesting, amusing, or biographical incident) of the Alpha King.
The scroll said, "Alpha King Jareth Stanton, born June 5th 835 b.c. Died May 3rd 545 b.c. Charged with treason; punishment: public death by silver injection. No known heirs; no mate. Assets will be put in pack museum and include: crown, necklace, several bracelets, three gold rings, along with weaponry." Devin thought about the rings and decided to head to the pack museum to check them out. When he arrived, he noticed three good rings were there, but one was identical to the one he had in his pocket. Upon a closer look, there was a difference. The one on display did not have the King's mark as the other one did. The inscription on the plaque said, "King Jareth's gold rings, the crest on the one signifies that it holds power. Power is only able to be used through direct descendants. Unable to determine origins or magic associated with such."
'Holy shit! This ring holds some sort of power? No wonder why there's a page missing and one scroll is burned. This makes so much sense. The power can only be unlocked by a descendant. Hmmmm.... From what I've read, he had no children. Why would Emma send this to Oliver?' Devin thought to himself as he walked back to his house.
As he entered, he decided to try to dig around and trace Jareth's family tree. Even if he had no mate, he could had an illegitimate child. Devin started taking out books and scrapbooks with wolf names and lineage. He worked tirelessly through the night and well into the early afternoon when he got to the last book. He didn't find anything. As he started putting the books back, he noticed a small leather bound journal that was tucked away behind the scrapbooks. 'What's this? I've never seen this before. How long has it been in here?' Devin asked himself. As he opened it, he realized this journal was no ordinary book, this was the Alpha King's personal diary.
After a few more hours of reading, he was at the last few pages of the journal and got really excited.
A picture fell out when he turned the page. Devin picked it up and read writing on the back. Jareth and I on our wedding day, October 13th 534 (b.c.). Werewolves had always had technology before it was discovered by humans.
'What the shit? How... I thought....' Devin's thoughts trailed off as he turned the picture over. 'HOLY SHIT! Is that Oliver and Emma?! It can't be... Emma would be a few thousand years old, it couldn't possibly be her... could it?' Devin said to himself.
The picture was of them smiling at each other and holding their left hands out for the camera. He started looking closer at the picture and it looked like this ring was indeed the one in the picture. Another thought entered Devin's mind. 'That would mean Oliver is a descendant of the Alpha King.' Devin's eye grew wide at the sudden realization. Oliver should be the Alpha King by blood. Emma had to have known Oliver was a descendant. If Oliver had the title of Alpha King, he would have control over all packs across the world. Control over those packs would increase their chance to win the coming war with the Golden Honey Clan. With that, Devin took the journal and the picture and mind-linked Oliver. 'Alpha! I found something. I'm headed to your office now.'
