~EMILY'S POV~
*BEEP.. BEEP.. BEEP..*
There was a quiet beeping that was coming from a close distance. I couldn't hear it very well at first- but the sound got clearer and clearer. My throat felt parched and thirsted for some water. I slowly moved my finger and for some strange reason, they felt very stiff. I thought to myself.
"Weird.."
After about a minute of shuffling around, I slowly opened my eyes. They fluttered open and took a second to adjust to the bright lights. Everything seemed like a big blur at first but things eventually cleared up. I blinked open my eyes a couple times before my vision finally returned to its normal state. When I fully opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was that I was a light panel on a ceiling. Then, came the weird IV injections and machines hooked up to me. It was very odd.
"Where the hell am I..?"
I couldn't at first move around my arms and legs because I couldn't feel anything. The sharp, stinging smell of rubbing alcohol stung my nose and I started looking around the room wondering where I was. I could hear distant chattering from outside the door and footsteps. I pulled the respirator off of my face and slowly turned my head around- to find a curly-haired boy by my side. Harry. He was perched on the edge of the hospital bed dozed off. For some reason, he was in a hospital gown.
"What happened?"
I clutched my head and tried to think back. My mind had went totally blank and I was retracing my steps.
"Okay. English final. Harry. Doorbe- Sean. Oh.."
My head slowly drifted down to look at my right side of my abdomen. I carefully unbuttoned the hospital gown and bit the bottom of my lip. It had been bandaged up pretty tightly and some parts were stained with blood. My fingers slightly brushed over it- slowly remembering what had happened. I felt myself kind of wince at the pain. I could still feel the edge penetrate the side of my skin- embedded in there as I relieved the memories.
"Ouch.."
I thought. I winced at the pain and it seemed to be throbbing. I carefully buttoned up my shirt again. Being careful not to wake him up, I stroked my fingers into his curls. They were curlier then usual and I instantly pulled back my hand when he shuffled around a bit. I was debating whether to wake him up or not- Harry seemed pretty tired. I yanked off the machines that were hooked up to me and sighed. It started beeping very rapidly and I banged on it with my hands to make it shut up. I decided to let Harry just stay asleep till he woke up. I pulled the folded up blanket from the cabinet and gently wrapped it over Harry's shoulders.
"That'll do.."
I looked out the window and it was a nice day. The sun was shining through the blinds and there was a gently breeze. I wanted to get a little bit of fresh air since it was so stuffy inside. I hated being cooped up in one place. The atmosphere wasn't pleasant at all. The smell of alcohol and the depressing color of the walls made it seem so bleak. I decided to just open up a small window and stick my face out. I carefully lifted one of my legs trying to climb out of bed. The wound was still sore but it was endurable. I took a deep breath and held onto the railing and pushed myself up. I was a bit dizzy at first and light-headed but it soon went away. I slowly walked on over to the windows and opened it. I thought to myself.
"Soak it all up while you can Em."
I was enjoying the ray of sunlight on my face. It was warming me up and the gentle, cool breeze was refreshing. I took a deep breath in and smiled. Suddenly, I heard the bed creak a several times and I slowly turned t head around. Harry was moving around when he must've woken up. He was rubbing his eyes and scratching the back of his head. He looked alarmed for a moment when there were only crumpled up blankets on the bed left behind. I stood there for a moment- until his eyes drifted onto me. Then, his eyes grew large. He immediately shot out of the stool and ran over towards me- knocking over a couple of things on the way, including a monitor. It clattered onto the floor loudly and I thought it broke.
