Chapter 2

"Now I know exactly what to do!"

After the conversation to Sandra, Danielle called her best friend Jaina, a pediatrician at the same hospital, asking her to come along.

"But what happened with your hot night with your hot fiancee?" Asked the other doctor.
"Just to advance the matter a little, there is no fiancee anymore." The blonde said in a bitter tone.
"Fuck! Dani, I'm on my way! I'll be there in 15."
"Okay, I'll be waiting dear. And Jai?"
"Yes?"
"Thank you!"
"Don't be silly! That's what friends/sisters are for! I'll be right there. Kisses."

After 15 minutes Jaina knocked on the door. Danielle went to open it and as soon as she saw her best friend, she threw herself on her and cried. Jaina just moved themselves to the sofa and just let the blonde cry her pain, her frustration and whatever she wanted. No words needed...

After a while, the sobs turned into snifles and only then the pediatrician asked:

"Hey, what happened?"

The blue-eyed girl told her everything that happened making the brunette really pissed.

"What the hell, Dani! Where is this son of a bitch? How could this piece of shit do that to you?" Jaina was screaming out of control.
"I don't know, Jai... and you know what?"

The other doctor turned her attention to her best friend, giving her a question look.

"I'm really okay with that. I know that's weird, but..."
"What? What do you mean? You were crying..."
"Those were tears of frustration, angry, but mainly realization... I mean, I realized that I was refusing to see the truth. Everybody warned me, includding you. I was the stupid one who..."
"No! Stop it! Don't you dare to blaim yourself for his shit! I won't let you, Dani!"
"I'm not saying that what he did was my fault. I know it wasn't. He is a scoundrel. What I'm saying it was my fault, was not listening to all of you. But now it's over!"

Jaina hugged her best friend tight.

"And now, what are you planning to do? The latina asked.
"Well, at first I need to tell my family what happened. And then, I'm gonna ask for vacance and go for a trip around Europe. Wanna join me?"
"Oh, you know I'd love to, but I don't think your dad will be willing to give me more days out... I just came back from vacation."
"Oh, that's a pitty, but... I understand."
"And... Dani? I need to ask you, what are you going to do about Grey? I mean, professionaly?"
"Nothing. Literally nothing at all!"

The pediatrician looked confused...

From this moment on, he will cope to his errors by himself. I won't cover it anymore. Not even fix his pueril errors anymore. He'll be treated like any other doctor."
"Great!"
"I'm done with his errors. Now he will have to deal with his incompetence."
"That's my girl! But tell me, when are you willing to talk to your father?"
"Tomorrow."
"And when are you planning to go on your trip?"
"Yesterday? Hahahahaha. I'm kidding. I don't know, as soon as possible."

The conversation went good. Danielle was able to forget about this day for a few hours.

"Well D, I gotta go. Will you be okay?"
"I hope so!"
"I have a better idea... go take your stuff, you're coming with me."

Both doctors were called at the hospital. It was an emergency. A car accident. Two victims, one of them a 7 years-old boy.

"Thanks God we didn't drink any alcohol."Danielle said.
"Yeah! Hey, let's go together?"
"Sure. I have my car keys. Let's go!"

As soon as they got into the emercency they were immediately updated:

"7 years old boy, trapped between the car's wreckage, internal bleeding from the spleen and a lasceration of the heart valve."

Both friends looked at each other. Concern stamped in their eyes...

"Okay, take him to the surgical center. We're going to prepare." Stated the head of cardiothoracic.
"Dani, what's the plan?"
"Damn it Jai. The case seems to be really serious. With those injuries, one of them causing hemorrage, I think we'll have to operate him simultaneously... what do you think?"
"Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Well, let's do our magic and save this boy."
"Deal! Who did you choose to assist you?" The blonde asked.
"Doctor Winston, and you?"
"Doctor Doss."
"Great!"
"They must be already there. Come on."

After more than 6 ours of surgery, Danielle and Jaina went to talk to victor's family.

"Good night. I'm doc Savre and this is doctor Ortiz."
"Oh my God, thank you God it was you, not doctor Damon!"

Danielle kept talking.

"Victor arrived with a ruptured spleen, which caused a strong internal bleeding, and in this, doctor Ortiz can clarify for you, once she was the doctor who fixed it. But he also had a laceration of the mitral valve. I repaired it and thank God it was possible to recover it without major problems."

So, it was Jaina's turn to talk...

Unfortunately there was nothing we could do about his spleen. We had to remove it. But don't worry. He will be fine without his spleen. We didn't have a choice. His organ's situation was really critical, so, if we didn't remove it he would certainly die because of the bleeding."

Victor's dad thanked both doctors and asked if he could see his son.

"He's stil in the recovery room, but as soon as he goes to the room, you'll be able to see him, okay?" Danielle explained.
"Okay, sure." The father agreed.
"Sir, your son was born again. He lost a lot of blood and had several injuries. Fortunately we could manage to fix it, but he will need to stay here for a few days before come back home. But he'll be fine." The cardiologist clarified the man.
"Doctor Savre, doctor Ortiz, I have no words to tell you how grateful I am. Thank you so much! You are both angels." Said the man with teary eyes.
"Thank you sir. We're happy everything is perfectly fine." The doctors replied. "Excuse us."

And they left.

"Oh my God, for a moment I thought  we wouldn't be able to save that little boy..." Jaina said.
"Yes, me too. Thanks God we did it! 😅"
"We're a good team. 😉"
"Definitely!" The blue-eyed girl agreed and high fived.
"Let's get changed?"
"Yes, let's go!"

When they got into Danielle's apartment, the blonde pecked some stuffs and they headed to Jaina's place.

"How are you feeling, Dani?"
"Like an idiot."
"Come on!"
"I should have listened to you..."
"Don't blaim yourself, things went like it had to be."
"Yeah, maybe you're right."
"I am. Believe me."
"Well, I don't know about you, but I'm really exhausted!"
"Me too!"
"So, let's go to bed?" Asked the brunette.
"Can I snuggle there with you?" The blonde asked pointing to Jaina's bed.
"Of course baby girl! Come here, it's time for sister's cuddles."
