Chapter 71

"I have no words to tell you how grateful I am for love and being loved by you!"

In 20 minutes they arrived at the police station. Danielle was really tense and Stefania sensing her girlfriend's state of mind, stopped her in her tracks, cupping her face in her hands and said:

"Bambina, you're much more than this hard moment! There is a whole world inside of you! You are amazing! And I'm so proud of you. The truth is, if most people really knew your story and all the things you've been through, they would probably wonder how you're still smiling."
"Oh, that's easy... I still smile because of you, my love!"
"I love you, Danielle!"
"I love you too, Stefania!"
"Are you ready, bambina?"
"With you by my side? Yes, definitely!"
"Okay,  let's go then. Papa, that piece of shit won't be there, right? I don't want my fidanzata being exposed to that motherfucker again."
"No figlia mia. But wait a second, let me check it once again." Randy said.
"Hey, do you know why do I love you? Because when I thought I would never love someone again you showed up healing all my wounds and protecting me like that, showing me that true love still exists."
"Bambina, I know I'm not the best, but I'm going to fight my whole life trying to treat you better than anyone else. Because I just don't want to lose you."
"Are you kidding me? You're the best, baby! The greatest love of all!"
"Dani, you're so damn precious to me! I love you so much!"
"Not as precious as you are to me, kitten. I love you much more!"
"Dani, Stef? It's okay, you can come." Randy called them from the stairs.
"Let's go?" The italian said.
"Love, I'm scared..." The blue-eyed girl confessed.
"Hey amore mio, listen to me. The true warrior isn't immune to fear. She fights in spite of it! And I know you can do that, bambina! It's pretty normal to feel that way, but I'm here with you, FOR YOU! And I won't leave your side for nothing, bella. I swear!"
"All right. Stef, I hope you know that you're everything I could ever need, on the good days and the bad ones. You give me a reason to look forward to tomorrow  when stepping one foot in front of the other feels impossible.  Thank you for reaching for my hand when I'm lost and for holding my head high when I feel like giving up. My eyes can see the sun because of you, and I hope I'm able to give you as much light as you have given to me. I love you!"
"I love you too, D! You're my life, my whole world!"

A few more seconds, the couple went, hand in hand inside. Danielle was really tense, but the hazel-eyed girl didn't leave her side.

The blonde told everything. Since Damon's medical errors till his attemptive today. As the cardiologist told the whole story, the policeman became more and more outraged. When the surgeon told about the betrayal, the lawman was disgusted.

"I know it may seem like I fell in love with Stefania too quickly, or that I was hasty, that I should have waited longer, but all of this showed me that I didn't love Grey. Of course, it hurts me a lot, but the biggest damage was to my ego, to my pride. He made me feel bad as a woman, but it also showed me that contrary of what I thought, I didn't love him. So I went with my sister to Paris and when Stef crossed my path... it was inevitable, I fell head over heels in love with her. And to be honest, I think Grey has never loved me either. What he wanted was to secure his job. So, when he realized that I had left everything behind, gotten over our relationship, and that meant he'd no longer have the head of cardiothoracic protecting him, the guy freaked out and did what he did .."
"Doctor Savre, I understood everything you told me, but that doesn't justify such cowardice..."
"Of course not! And believe me, I'm not trying to justify the unjustifiable. In fact, I know that I don't even owe an explanation of my personal life, but I make a point of making everything very clear. And unlike Grey, Stef didn't approach me because she wanted to secure a position at my family's hospital. Her reputation precedes her, so she doesn't need that. My girlfriend is world renowned for her competence and medical skills, so all the best hospitals in the world want her on their clinical staff. And as my father said today in her and doctor Rodhes' presentation, she had already been negotiating with my dad for 6 months and when we met, she had already been hired, the only thing missing was to formalize the contract, which would be done when she arrived in the USA. Therefore, one thing has nothing to do with the other."
"Doctor Savre, please, don't worry. No one is judging you." The police chief said softly.
"It's not me I'm worried about, chief. I'm just  not going to allow Grey or anyone else to throw my woman's name in the mud, because unlike that piece of shit, Stefania has character and she doesn't need that to move up her career ladder."

The hazel-eyed girl was all over her girlfriend's statement, especially the part where Danielle referred to her as her woman.

"Doctor Savre, don't worry. We can see how much you guys love each other. What you have is precious! Cultivate that love daily, girls! Well, we're done here for now. If I need any more statements from you, I'll get in touch."
"Okay. Thank you so much, chief." The ocean-eyed girl thanked the man offering her hand to shake his.
"My pleasure, doctor. Is there something else I can help?"

Then it was the italian's turn to speak.

"Actually, yes. Definitely, I don't want this garbage near my girlfriend. What can we do to ensure my woman's safety?" The Ob/Gyn asked genuinely concerned.
"Doctor Spampinato, there is nothing to worry about. This coward is going to spend a lot of time behind bars, but if it makes you feel better, we can get a restraining order against him."
"Sì, that makes me feel much better. So please, what should we do to arrange this order?" The brunette asked determined.

Danielle could barelly hold back her happiness of hearing her girlfriend calling her "her woman".

After a few more instructions and arrangements, Randy left the police station with his daughters. (Yes, he saw Stefania as his daughter).

"Stef, my daughter, you have a sunflower soul. No matter how dark it gets, it will always light all around. Thank you so much for caring about Danielle the way you do! I love you my daughter!" Randy said staring straight into the ob/Gyn's eyes.
"Oh papa, I love you too! You and Kathy are my mom and dad. But don't you ever thank me for loving Danielle.  She's so easy to be loved! I love her in ways she has never been loved before! For reasons you guys have never been told. For longer than you think, deserved and with more than she will ever know that exist inside me. Just because I have no idea of how to translate what I feel into words!"
"Stef, I will take my time loving you because what I know for sure is that I want this to last forever! Meeting you, my love, was fate. Becoming your friend was a choice. But falling in love with you was way beyond my control!"

They kissed in love, not even caring for Randy, who was driving.

They got home and broke the news to Kathy, Steph and Connor, who were waiting for them.

"Wow, finally you're free of that asshole, my sister. From now on, I just want to see you happy, next to this wonderful woman who was certainly sent by the angels to make you happy, little sister." Stephanie said very emotional, finally letting allcm the steess of the day take care of her...
"Hey big sis, I'm fine! Everything is okay.  Don't cry Steph. "
"Dani, I was so scared... when Stef told me what was going on, I felt my soul leaving my body and..."
"Hey, I'm safe! Thanks to all of you I'm here, safe and sound, steph."
"I know. Thanks to Stefania you're here, baby girl. I have no idea of what would I  do if..."
"Hey steph, look at me." The younger Savre asked. "Nothing worse had happened, okay? I have a wonderful girlfriend who saved me, right?"
"Okay, but we must contract some body guards for you and Stefania.  I don't trust this motherfucker."
"I don't think that this is necessary.  He's under arrest, but if this is going to make you calmer, I agree. But I can't speak for Stef, we'll have to ask her, okay?"
"Okay..." The orthopedist replied still crying.
"For me it's okay. I agree with my fidanzata, but if this is going to give you some peace of mind, sure, I agree." The hazel-eyed girl said.
"Thank you girls!"

They joined in a collective hug exhaling relief and so much love, in addition to a complicity never witnessed before. And with the certainty that love is the bases of everything and that they would always be there for each other, everyone went to the dinner room to share one of the most important family meals till this date, knowing that they should cherish every second of the precious life they had the happiness and privilege of sharing it with each of them.
