Chapter 43

"I didn't believe in love anymore, bambina until I met you. You showed me what it's like to really love and being loved."

As the blonde read, she became more and more angry and outraged. Stefania, on the other hand, was sitting next to her girlfriend with her heart missing a few beats, afraid of losing the love of her life.

"Stefania, I can't take this shit anymore. You just live in tour own world, closed off, as if there was only you and no one else. When we started dating, you were cheerful, fun, you made me feel loved, the center of your world. And out of a sudden, just because your mother died, all this has ended up. You don't see me anymore, you don't care about sex, you just cry in the corners repeating how you miss your mom, and honestly that annoys me. You have become a toxic and selfish person. It's not my fault if you didn't realize your mother was sick and she ended up dying because of your lack of competence. I need a normal life, with lots of sex, parties, social life and joy. Not someone who only knows how to regret. Don't look for me anymore. Don't even call me, I won't answer or receive you. I want distance of toxic people like you, because it doesn't do me any good. I hope you find another idiot who can handle this and is whilling to live to comfort you. I'm not this idiot.

Danielle was so pissed off.

"What a bitch! Who is this motherfucker? I'm gonna show her what is a toxic person!"
"Bella, it's okay. Never mind."
"No, love. It isn't okay. This motherfucker is a complete idiot! She doesn't know a shit about what she was talking, and you were never a toxic or selfish person, baby. You went through hell, your uncles unfairly blaimed you for something that wasn't within your reach and this piece of shit acts like an asshole and she dares to call you selfish? And toxic? Stef, where can I meet this piece of shit?"
"Amore mio, calm down. She doesn't worth it!"
"Yes, you're right, she doesn't. But even tho I will show her who is toxic, selfish and stupid."
"Bambina, look at me, please."

When their eyes met Danielle's expression immediately softned..

"It doesn't matter anymore, amore mio. Like I said before you start to read this note, I just kept it with me to remind me not everyone has a good heart."
"But, Stef, she was so selfish. She blaimed you for your mom's death, which is an absurd. She didn't have a little compassion or empathy for some human being, most of that, for someone she said she loved!"
"Yes, bella, I know that!"
"Baby, she was supposed to be there for you. You were going through the worst moment in your life. As your girlfriend, she should have... she was supposed to show you love, to support you, but instead, she was concerned with her social life? Parties? Sex? This is sick!"
"Bambina the world turns. What has to come, comes and what has to go, goes. What is yours, approaches. What no longer has a place in your life, says goodbye. We lose and win all the time, but losses are not always defeats. If Katarina hadn't left me, we wouldn't have met and I wouldn't have the love of my life by my side. What I mean is that she was an asshole. She was selfish, pitty and futile. Just when I needed her most. But I'm grateful that she left me. Of course, it didn't have to be this way, but I got over it and I'm getting over my mother's death every day with your help - even tho you didn't even know it until today. So, it's okay."
"But she increased your suffering, my love. She blaimed you for something it wasn't under your control. You didn't deserve it, baby!"
"Yes, she did all that. She also made me feel like shit, but I'm here. I overcame it. And I found you, the love of my life. That's all that matters, amore mio!"
"Baby, behind every person, there are tears and pains that no one knows. From the door in, anyone knows what's going on, from the doors out, everyone tells what they want. We're masters of judging without knowing. We don't know what others face. She couldn't have done this to you, my love, because she was here, and she saw the whole process..."
"No amore mio. Although she saw what happened, she didn't understand my suffering because it was not part of her path, only mine. Katarina has always been too futile to empathize with anyone. Judging me was easy. It would be difficult for her to put on my shoes and walk over my pain. Do you understand?"

The cardiologist  just nodded. Stefania had that kind of power over her. She always instantly calmed her down.

"Sei bellisima, sei forte, sei tenace amore mio! You should be proud of yourself for the way you handled those past few months. From the silent battles that you fought. From the times you fell down but you still chose to get up. You're a worrior, my love! So, do me a favor, celebrate your streghts."

Stefania couldn't help but smile in love.

"Yes, I'm a strong person bambina. But every now and then, I also need someone to take my hand and say everything will be okay."
"I am and I will always be that person, my love!"
"I love you so much, Dani!"
"Not as much as me, princess!"
"Do you still want me to move in with you? After all that?"
"Are you kidding me? Stefania, I love you more than words can say. I know it's too early and that you're scared. I'm scared too, I won't lie. We both went through a lot lately. But let's face love together, because I only want to feel it with you! We both have scars, but I'm pretty sure we'll be okay. The most precious thing a person can have is a heart that cares and empathizes with other people... and I think we have  so much of this, so we can make this happen!"

Stefania was crying again, but this time, that was happiness tears.

"I wish I could be one of your tears, baby."
"W-what?" The brunette asked confused.
"So, I can slide down your cheeks and slowly touch your lips."
"You know you can do that whenever you want, bambina."
"Yes, that's why I'm gonna kiss you right now!"

And they kissed. It was a calm kiss, full of love. Both women shedding tears and smiling at the same time while they kissed. When they broke the kiss, the surgeon knelt down and holding Stefania's both hands she said:

"Stefania, I love you much more than yesterday and much less than tomorrow. Can you please say yes to me and give the extraordinary honor to come live with me?"
"Yes, I'll move on with you, amore mio!"
"I love you!"

Danielle stood up and took the the Ob/Gyn in her arms and started kissing her while twirled her girlfriend in the air.

"You make me so happy, my love!"
"Not as much as you make me, bambina!"
"Come on, let's tell them the good news!" Said a really excited Danielle.
"Okay. But first, I need some stress relief..."
"Oh, I think I can help with that, doctor Spampinato."
"Actually, only you can, doctor Savre!"
