Amazed

Chapter 5

"Now, I think we'd better get going, I have an early surgery tomorrow."

The day started lazy. Danielle was already feeling in holliday. But she needed to go to the hospital to make sure everything was settled down and that doctor Young would find everything ready and organized while covering her.

When the cardiologist got at the hospital, she met Stephanie restless.

"Hey, what's up? Are you okay?"
"Damn it Dani, do you have a minute?"
"Of course! Come with me to my office."

Both sisters headed to Danielle's office and after taking seat and indicate her sister to do the same, the younger Savre asked:

"So, tell me what's going on?"
"It's happening that Grey is an incompetent idiot!"
"What? What does Grey has to do with whatever we are talking about here, Steph?"  Danielle asked confused.
"Do you remember I told you I had a surgery today?"
"Sure. And...?"
"Well, like I told you, my patient is 62 years old and he has a heart condition. So, I asked Mr Miller, my patient, to get his cardiologist's permision for the surgery. But for my complete surprise, his cardiologist is doctor Grey Damon." Stephanie scoffed his name with disgust.
"Shit! Son of a bitch!"
"Yeah, and now I have a patient waiting for the surgery and I really don't know..."
"Wait. What is his problem?" Asked the cardiologist genuinely interested.
"Congenital cardiomyopathy."
"No, sweetie, this isn't a complete issue. On the contrary, it is pretty common."
"Yeah, I suspected it. But I was so pissed that I didn't even think. This guy can't stop doing shit, Dani?"
"Look, let's not waste time or energy on Grey. Do you have this patient's chart, where I can find out more about his heart condition?"
"Yes. But I don't want to bother you. I know you're busy..."
"No ifs or buts! Steph, I'm not even close to be busy today. I was just checking on my notes to make sure everything is fine. I don't even have a single elective appointment. Besides, I'm gonna love to share the OR with my big sister, if you allow me, of course! 😊"

Stephanie's face lit up.

"Oh my God, D. You saved  my day! Come on, let's check on Mr Miller's chart and be prepared for this surgery!"

The sisters had already a surgery plan after checking on the patient's chart. At first, the cardiologist would only accompany the surgery by monitoring the patient's cardiac conditions. She would intervene only if it was necessary.

Everything was ready. Stephanie headed to Mr Miller's room followed by her sister. She managed to explain the whole situation to the patient and his family before take him into th OR.

After introducing Danielle and clarifying everything, the older Savre asked if there was any doubt. The patient's wife just said:

"We have no doubts. Not about the surgery, much less in relation to the doctors who will be assisting my husband. Thank you so much, doctor."
"It's our pleasure! Mr Miller, see you in a few minutes. Let's give you back the ability to walk normaly again 😁."

After about 2 hours and a half, the Savre sisters walked out of the OR looking for the patient's family.

"The surgery was a complete success! He will go through some pain for a few days, but the physiotherapy will bring his leg's function back soon."
"Oh my God, doctor Savre, thank you so much!"
"Our pleasure!"
"And how did his heart behave?" Asked the wife.
"Well, it was necessary to monitor closely all the time, but in general, everything went well. I'd like to talk to you about Mr Miller's treatment. Do you think you could come see me in the future?"

Mrs Miller sighed in relief.

"Sure doctor Savre, but I don't understand what could you do for my husband..."
"What do you mean?" Asked the blonde completely confused.
"Well, acording to doctor Damon, Dean has a congenital cardiomiopathy, and he told us that there is no cure for his condition..."

Danielle got pissed once again at Grey.  How could he be that stupid? Incompetent? All she wanted to do was to yell in Grey's face, but instead, she took a deep breath and said:

"Mrs Miller, my colleague is very wrong. Not only is there treatment, but in some cases, there is a cure for your husband's condition, which is why I would like to evaluate him as soon as I return from my vacation. I'm not saying that there will be a cure, but there are good chances, yes."

The woman's eyes lit up and she could no longer hold back the tears. So, she hugged the cardiologist thanking her really feeling grateful.

"I have no words to say how grateful I am to you, doctor Savre. If there is anything I can do for you, both of you, please, let me know."

Both sisters got emotional. Danielle just replied:

"Actually, there is something you can do."
"Tell me. I'll do anything."
"Take care of your husband and of your love. Make sure you're still special to each other, okay?"

The woman wasn't waiting on this answer...

"Jesus, you're everything I heard and more! What a blessed family! You are both angels!"
"Thank you so much Mrs Miller! Let's do like this: I will leave some exams requests for your husband. They will do this at here while he's interned. When I come back, I'll call you to come to an appointment with me and then we'll start the treatment, okay?"
"Okay. You have my word I will do all you asked me, doctor Savre! Thank you so much. I wish you a great time on your vacation!"
"Thank you so much. See you soon."
When they both were heading home, Stephanie said:

"Thank you little sister! You are a life saver!"
"No. You might not realize that Steph, but YOU saved me! Now, all I want is a shower, something to eat and some snuggles with my really talented big sis before head to bed. And tomorrow, thinking nothing but Paris!"
