Chapter 83

"Good. Let me go after this woman. Let's find out what she wants."

As soon as he arrived at the police station, detective Cruz began tracking down Sandra's address. It wasn't difficult to find. So he recruited 2 police officers and after giving the necessary instructions and notifying his superiors, he went to the woman's house.

When he arrived there, Cruz informed the control center, leaving everyone  on notice and rang the doorbell.

"Can I help you?" A young lady answered the door.
"Good afternoon, lady. I'm detective Cruz, from LAPD. Can we talk?"

The woman was already expecting something like that.

"Of course. Please, come in and make yourself comfortable."
"Thank you."
"Do you accept water or coffee?"
"No thanks. Ms Sandra, I need you, ask you some questions."
"Of course. I was already hoping for that. Sit down, please, detective. How can I be helpfull? Even though I already know what is going on. I assume Danielle has already received my delivery, otherwise you wouldn't be here."
"Yes. Actually  her girlfriend had."
"Oh, it's true. The friendly nurse asked me if I wanted to talk to her girlfriend, because doctor Savre was busy. Please, tell me, is Danielle okay?"
"Yes, she is."
"Okay,  I'm glad to know that."
"Tell me ms Oh, why did you leave a package for Danielle's girlfriend?"
"Well, the truth is that when I was dating Grey,  I didn't know he was engaged, much less who he was engaged to. He pretended to be the betrayed fiancee... until one day we were at their house and doctor Savre arrived and caught us in bed. I mean, in her bed. God, that was horrible! At first, I didn't understand anything and when I questioned him, doctor Savre told me all the truth. Obviously I broke up with him right there and when I left the room, very embarrased by the situation, I asked to talk to her. And she listened to me, treated me very well and said I was as much victim as she was in this story."
"Okay, but I still don't get the reason why you sent her this picture..."
"Danielle proved to be a good person, with a generous and pure heart. Even after everything she saw and heard, she treated me well. She respected me all the time. I can say she was as sorry for me as she was for herself. She doesn't deserve anything bad to happen to her or her family."
"Okay... but what makes you think that something bad can happen to her? Or her family?" Cruz asked.
"A few days after the incident Grey came to me. As there were still some of his belongings at my apartment, I let him in and then he started telling me that he didn't love Danielle, that he was only with her  for the money. But as soon as ge got married, he would find a way to get as much money as possible from that family and come back to me. Of course, I didn't go along with it, not just because I would never do something like that with anyone,  but mainly because I felt an inexplicable disgust with that man for being so unscrupulous. So I sent him away from my life once again and he, before leaving, told me that he would achieve his objectives. At the time I didn't pay much attention, but when I found out what happened at the hospital, and Grey was in jail, I started thinking about what he had told me."
"Right. And how did you know about this woman?"
"Actually,  I didn't. But I went to pay a visit to Grey just to try to understand what he intended to do with Danielle, and try to make him change his mind."
"Oh, I see. Keep going, please." Detective Cruz asked.
"But when I got there, I saw that he was kissing a woman and I took advantage of the fact he didn't see me and took this picture. And I heard him telling this woman that she was going to have to go to the hospital, because Stefania worked there. And that now, she would have to carry out a large part of the plan until he got out of jail."
"All right... but who is this woman?"
"I have no idea.. "
"Are you telling me you don't know her?"
"Yes. I'm telling exactly that. I've never seen this woman before. But when I heard this, I left the place and called the hospital, where I asked if there was some doctor Stefania.  Someone told me that doctor Stefania Spampinato is the new member of the crew. So I decided to go meet Danielle, but before I went to see Grey once again."
"And what happened then?"
"He told me he was managing to put his plan in action. Of course, I didn't tell him I was there the other day and pretended to be interested just to get some more information. And then he told me that I didn't need to worry, that the fact that he was in prison wouldn't affect his plan in any way, because  he had an accompliance in the hospital and he was already finding a way to get another person he trusted there."
"What? Did he say who is this accompliance?"
"Yes. He's name is Scott. He's a nurse at the cardiology surgical center. I'm sorry I only know his first name,  because Grey didn't tell me his full name and I was afraid to ask and make him suspicious..."
"Don't worry ms Oh. This is going to help."
"Grey said that this guy hates Danielle's dad because he believes he deserved to be head of nursing, but doctor Savre never promoted him. So Grey enticed the guy to help him with the promise of giving some of the money they manage to steal."
"Damn it... Okay ms Oh, did you find out anything about this woman?"
"Unfortunately not."
"And why did you decide to send Danielle this picture and didn't want to talk to her but let it under her girlfriend's attention?"
"Because I don't know who is this guy, Scott. I didn't want to take my chances. So, when that nurse offered me to talk to doctor Savre's girlfriend, I had the idea of giving this to her, betting that Danielle would find a way to get to me."
"Oh, that was smart, I admit. Now, I have to ask you: are you really interested in help?"
"Yes, sir. Doctor Savre is a pure soul. She didn't deserve what Grey did to her and she definitely doesn't deserve what this bastard intends to do to her and her family."
"Okay. I appreciate your help for now."
"Please, tell Danielle I'm so sorry for scaring her and her girlfriend.  That wasn't my intention."
"I will. Please, be careful. This is my number. Call me if you need."
"I will. If I have any news, I'll let you know detective."
"Okay. Thank you so much."

Detective Cruz said goodbye and left. On his way to the station, Cruz called Randy on the phone he gave to the Savre family. The neurosurgeon answered quickly and the police officer told him everything. Randy decided to tell Danielle everything,  so that she could help. Detective Cruz said goodbye and headed to the police station to start the investigation.

"Dani, princess. "
"Yes dad?"
"Do you know a nurse called Scott?"
"Scott...?"
"Yes. Try to remember baby girl."
"Why? What is going on?" The blue-eyed girl asked.
"Just tell me, do you know him?"

After a few minutes, the cardiologist said:

"Yes, of course! Scott Newman. It's a very kind nurse in the operating room."
"Is there another Scott  in the operating room?"
"I don't think so, dad. But I'm not sure. Why?"
"Because this son of a bitch is associated to Grey. He is his accompliance."
"What? Are you sure, dad? Are we talking about the same person? Because the Scott I'm talking about is always polite and friendly to me..."
"Since when this guy is next to you, dear?"
"Mmm I don't know. But he used to be..."
"He used to be...?" Randy encouraged.

Danielle made a scared face.

"Bambina, what is going on?" Stefania asked alarmed.
"He used to be Grey's friend and a few days after I broke up with him, Scott approached..." the ocean-eyed girl said starting to "join the pieces."
"Damn it!" Randy yelled.
"What is going on, honey?" Kathie asked.
"This son of a bitch is working with Grey!"
"How do you know that, dad?" Stephanie asked.
"Because detective Cruz found that woman who sent the package and she told him everything She knew..."
"And how does she know what is going on, dad?" The cardiologist asked.

The older Savre told everyone about the police officer's call.

"But we can trust this woman?" Stefania asked really worried.
"I don't know..." Randy said defeated.
"I think we can, love." Danielle said.  "When I caught them in my bed, she asked to talk to me and we had a really honest conversation. And I saw she was honest to me..."
"I understand bambina, but you must be careful, amore mio. "
"I know baby, don't worry. We won't do anything without detective Cruz, okay?"
"Ok."
"Dad, what about we call detective Cruz and ask him to come here to talk?" Danielle suggested.
"Not now, princess. We agreed he'd stay at the station for now, researching and investigating about Sandra and Scott. He will call me when he has some information."
"Okay..."
"Let's try to eat something?" Kathie invited.
"Yes, that would be good." Randy said.
"I'm not hungry..." The blonde said
"Bambina,  you need to eat, even if it's a little."
"Noooo." The surgeon replied sly.
"If you eat a little bit, maybe I can reward you later..." The hazel-eyed girl whispered naughtly in her girlfriend's ear.
"Okay, let's eat." Danielle said looking forward the dessert.
