It felt pleasant and cozy that I had adjusted to this routine, going to work, spending family time with Dad and Lucas and those endless moments with Chris. All fucking well set. I had a feeling that Chris wasn't found of Lucas and dad but turns out they were closer to taking him in the gang as well. Also, as Lucas had told dad the previous night, "Chris can handle the Romano Industries for me if the gang demands more of my time."
The good part was that they were indeed bonding and an outsider could definitely say they are closer friends. Though my dad seemed oddly suspicious of him and when I asked him about the same he dismissed it. Maybe they'll take more time to adjust with each other.
I had double-sided ideology for the mafia part of my family and was avoiding the discussion on that. Chris did asked me if I was okay with it and that if I wanted him to do something about the same. The problem here was that as I was totally ignoring that side of my family and had silently asked everyone to do so.
Chris in fact had a good time exploring the gang especially it's business side- according to my dad. Dear God, where was my grumpy big boy who didn't liked bloodshed at all and would avoid it any cost? What did these two do to him?
It was Sunday afternoon, I was at my house with dad and Lucas for the day. Dad and I had lunch together and were sitting in his office room, in silence after he'd say let's talk. Weird.
"Tell me about mom", I say.
We never touched this topic since everything was revealed and I wanted to hear from him. Like some teenager I was sitting on the desk while my dad was on his chair. His jaw clenches and I almost regret disturbing the silence but his gaze softens, eyes drooping down. When he looks up, his eyes looked sad, depicting what was about to show up, "That woman feared no one, not even death."
"If it weren't for my shitty mistakes we could've been a family. You would've learned how to handle blades from your mother and how to deal with assholes from me."
I giggle, "So you two were quite a pair, huh!"
"Yes, as I said, your mother feared no one though she and her twin brother, Your uncle Jeremy were quite the pair. You can say gloomy and loving, the opposites. Sometimes I'd think, were they really twins, because your mother - a hot-headed business woman while your uncle was the one with a sarcastic thinking."
Here it goes, 'my uncle Jeremy' the uncle I've never known, just seen him in the photos.
"Do you think he'd be my godfather if it were up to mom?" I ask.
Dad chuckles, "He is, because while Julia was pregnant, she had already assigned him with the godfather duties."
"Do you think she'd appreciate of what I've become today?"
The question popped off my mouth as randomly as it could be. But I wanted that answer, I never had Victor Robinson tell me one good word about the decisions I'd make. I never knew how it felt like to be supervised by parents but now it felt like I could have it all, though late, I could still make it up, make it up to dad, make it up to Lucas and compensate for those 23 years we missed with each other.
"Offcourse, my child ! Why not, she'd been proud of you. Don't think of her as someone boring. If it were up to her, she'd celebrate on a big scale on what you are today, because trust me, I had seen it in her eyes, she would've set everything on fire, hell even me if you were to feel even slightest amount of cold."
"Do you miss her?" I ask in an instance with a break in my voice, suppressing a sob.
"Every.Single.Day of my waking life, because the one woman I had loved with my whole life was taken from me", his voice hoarse an croaked.
