Hailey Robinson

I was on my way back home when I felt like I was being watched. It was giving me creepy vibes. Maybe I was overthinking, so I just shrug it off and enter the building.

I see Nick standing near the elevator busy in his phone. I approach him and clear my throat, "hey Nick." He looks up from his phone with a smile, "oh hey H" Yes he calls with the initial of my name, his very own idea. "so, what today?", I ask him and he just stares upwards with hands in his pockets of jeans. "how about 'The Expendables' ?" He has this eager look on his face. I smile and agree to him.

In a minute we are out of the elevator in front of the door when I hear his phone go off. He excuses himself to pickup the call while I make my way in. the lights were off indicating Chris isn't home yet so I take a step in but stumble and fall on the floor knee-first, I get a hold of myself by placing my hands on the floor around my body. I gather up my fallen form and hit on the switches to turn on the light.

I take a turn and my body freezes and all the blood is drained out when my eyes take in to what I had stumbled upon. Chris was lying on the floor eyes closed, face turned to side, blood dripping from the back of his head and there was blood on his blue suit jacket and some of it also pooled around his head.

Approaching near him and I kneel down to turn him so his face can be seen. I take his upper body on my knees and cradle his face in my hands trying to shake him gently. Calling out his name various times combined with gentle taps on his cheeks doesn't works as he doesn't bulge. I check on his pulses and breathing indicating he is just unconscious. Checking on his other body parts for any more injuries I was thankful as there were none.

My heart was racing at the questions about how long was he in this condition. My eyes landed on the blood and the realization hit me. "Nick Help", I screamed and call out his name several times. Nick comes in rushing and sees Chris' figure on my knees. "We need to take him to the hospital he might need blood and drips, we don't know for how long he has been unconscious", I say with urgency clear in my voice.

He shook his head and helps me pick up Chris while I try keeping his head stable and keeping an eye on his injury. The good part is, his skull doesn't seem to be fractured so it can be a minor traumatic injury and could have given him milder concussion. We got to the hospital in no time as Nick managed to drive as fast as he could while I was in the backseat with Chris keeping his head stable and constantly checking on his pulse and breathing.

We rushed Chris to the emergency department and as I was still in my uniform so nobody bothered about me going along, but Nick pulls me before I can head in. "Let them check, you should sit as you've worked all day and must be tired", Nick holds my arm before I could do anything. I tried telling him I should be in but in vain as he said he wasn't going to buy any of my words and states he is as worried as I am.

We were sitting on the chairs outside. My emotions were racing and heart was beating wildly, thinking about Chris. Me being a doctor should know that he is gonna be alright but somehow my thoughts were not allowing me to have a sign of relief.

What felt like an hour or so a doctor walks out. We stand up and go near him. My thoughts were too blurry to speak as I was still in dilemma about analyzing the condition I saw Chris. Nick was the first one to speak or more like ask, "What happened doctor, is he alright?"

The doctor gives a small nod and explains, "My name is Dr.Jones and I attended the young man who was brought in, looks like he was being hit on head, it is a mild injury and he may have had a minor concussion and lost some blood but you guys brought him right in time so nothing to worry about but still he'll be out for some hours." Thank god. It was a relief so far as I was correct it didn't get much serious.
