Hailey Robinson

My disguise was pathetic but managed to cover up the reason to why I was sitting alone outside a café, at fucking 8 in the morning. Up till now, my plan has been going right on path, now all I needed to do was have my hands on the goddamn folder which I was going to have in a few minutes anyway.

Last night after leaving the penthouse, I hauled my way to the hospital dorms meant for interns and residents, found a spot and stared at the ceiling instead of sleeping.

Chris' calls and messages didn't stop, it felt like a loop set by an robot, reminder to keep on calling and texting. I knew better than to take a look at messages or listen to all those voicemails.

The damage done was so brutal and heart-wrenching that if I had seen even one of his messages or even heard one of those voicemails I would've said, "fuck the video" and straight away ran to him and cried in his arms, but I had to be strong, if not for me, not for us, for him I had to.

Someone tapping the table catches the attention, I look up to see that one person I choose to do this job, the one who could definitely do it without raising any suspicions.

I gesture him to take his seat, pull the sides of my hoodie to cover my face properly. He cleaes his throat, "Miss.Robinson..." I seethe and making a shushing action, "not here, did you get me the folder I asked for?"

He nods, I sigh.

"and what about the papers?" I ask hurriedly. He shrugs off the bag from his shoulder, takes out the brown folder I had asked for, opens it slightly making the papers visible enough for me. I nod and take the folder off his hold and go through the contents once again and sigh, perfect.

Just what I wanted.

There was a frown on his face, "why do you want a....." he trails off when I repeat the shushing action. "you are to call me once it's settled, do you understand me?" I ask in a stern voice though I knew I didn't had to raise a single decibel at him but to keep a safety measure I do.

He nods, "I will, but I don't understand." Shaking my head, partly raising my hand indicating him to pause I say, "there is nothing for you to understand here, just do as I say"-he nods-"once settled you are to give me a call, don't forget."

He nods, "are you sure?" I nod at him, "I am, thank you, you may leave." He hesitates but nods a few times and without a word leaves. I had my hands on the folder, now was the time for the video.

Placing the call to Jessica, I brace myself for the storm about to lift me off my feet. She picks up the call, I speak, "I have the folder." "Did you call off the engagement?", she doesn't even pauses for a second and asks without any extra thought. Did she even heard what I said?

"yes" I reply with a heavy heart.

"Good" she chuckles. "Now, I am sending you a location, be there in an hour or you can kiss the video goodbye", she says. I stiffle a scream and reply, "okay!"

Her message arrives, I call a cab and show the guy the address. He looks up and down at me, looks at the address again and stares at me. Pressing my lips together, I plead in the softest manner possible, "please, it's urgent."

"Miss, the location is approximately 2 hours from here, are you sure?" he asks exaggerating on '2 hours'. Nodding, I plead again. He sighs but agrees.

Getting inside I let myself have a full minute of deep breathing exercise. After being at a little ease, I check on my phone again. Location was on, so incase shit goes hell at least I can be traced. I had Chris, Nick and Lina on speed dial and emergency SOS ready.
