Chapter 35: The Assignment

Over the next couple of days I've had a difficult time keeping the secret from Steve. I hate lying or keeping anything from him, and it's not only because it's not in my personality but also because of how much I love him.

Today in training I know that I was more than a little distracted, which made me frustrated, since I was unable to control my newfound flying ability. Steve could tell something was bothering me so he ended our session early.

I immediately went to take a shower, and let my overthinking brain relax under the hot water. I haven't remembered anything new, and for now I just keep going over the memories I have recalled. 

As I step out of the shower, I grab the towel I left out and wrap it around myself as I walk out to my bedroom to change.

When my phone buzzes with a message I ignore it at first, but when it starts going crazy I hastily pick it up.

I have several messages from Steve, but before I can even look at them he calls me, "Hey Stevie, I just got out of the shower, what's up?", I ask as I finish buttoning my pants.

"We have a new assignment, so I'm going to need you to meet in the conference room as soon as you can sweetheart", he informs me.

Honestly, I love how he can be both professional and yet sweet with me at the same time. Even in his Captain America mode he's still soft with me.

"Okay I'll see you there soon!", I tell him, hanging up quickly so I can rush over.

When I get there I see that Nat is the only one in the room, "Hey Nat, what's going on?", I ask looking around.

"Just a standard mission. Fury told us about it when we met with him a couple of minutes ago", she voices nonchalantly not looking up from her phone.

Relief washes over me after she says this, since I was worried it was something big like what happened in Wakanda. I plop down in a seat next to her right as Steve and Bucky walk in.

Bucky glances in my direction before taking the seat next to me. As he does I give him a small smile, which he quickly returns.

"Okay guys listen up. Fury just informed us that one of Shield's ships has been taken hostage, this is a standard rescue mission and we will be working alongside the Strike team. We selected you three to join us as we believe your skills will be the most useful", Steve says giving me a sly wink at the end.

"We will be leaving in 10 minutes. The sun is starting to set now so by time we get there it will be a night mission, get whatever you need and meet at the helicopter pad", Steve says before we all get up and start making our way out.

The boys and I walk down our hallway and separate as we go into our rooms to change. As I'm about done putting my boots on Steve walks in.

My face naturally lights up into a smile as I'm taken in by the dark blue suit and shield he's wearing.

"Are you trying to distract me on our mission in that suit? Because I'm not sure I'll be able to focus", I tease as I continue to check him out.

"That's what I'm worried about", he says looking at me from under those long lashes of his.

I raise an eyebrow at that, "You're worried I'll want to jump on you during our mission? I'm all for public sex but you don't have to worry about me doing that tonight", I jest.

He walks up to me and places his hands on the sides of my shoulders, "You know what I meant, Rosie. I don't want you to take any unnecessary risks. I know you're capable of protecting yourself but you're still new and in training, so do as your told and be safe".
