My chest tightens as I fear what the truth might actually be.
"Then tell me", I say trying to swallow my fear.
"There are these sources of power called infinity stones. They're very difficult to come by, but on a rare occasion they can give powers", he tells me.
I look back towards the party and listen to the scattered sounds of laughter and talking in the background.
"You think that's what I was exposed to?", I softly ask refocusing.
"I think it's a good possibility", he returns.
"From what I do know about the stones, is that they are extremely rare to come by and that they mainly kill people who do directly interact with them.. some are lucky like Wanda and her brother but most aren't", I counter.
He nods his head back and forth as he weighs what I just said, "Yes... but you could very well be one of them. Especially since you don't have any recollection of what you were exposed to each time".
"So how do we find out if that's what it was?", I ask.
He pauses for a moment before answering, "I might know of an expert".
...
After we left to go to bed I made a feeble excuse to Steve and Bucky about not feeling good and wanting to get some sleep and be alone tonight.
I hated putting them both off, especially Steve since we often slept together. But this is something that I have to do, and I know they'd stop me if they knew.
I waited in my room until I heard Thor's knock on my door and from there we left together.
"God Steve and Bucky would kill me if they knew were we were going right now!", I tell Thor as we make our way down to the prison below the palace.
He looks back at me with a wry smirk, "Well then it's a good thing that they don't know".
I roll my eyes at him as we continue our decent down until the stairs come to an end and Thor talks quietly to a guard blocking us from going further.
Once they stop talking I follow both of them over to a large glass cell in the middle of the prison.
Unlike the other cells this one is adorned with furniture, books, foods and all essentials to make this look more like a bedroom then a prison.
As we approach a single tall dark haired man sits facing away from us, casually reading a book.
"To what do I owe the pleasure at this late hour brother?", Loki asks lazily without turning around.
"I have someone here I'd like you to meet", Thor responds.
Instantly Loki snaps the book shut, "Is that so", I hear him mutter before standing up.
As he draws near, I can feel my muscles tighten as I'm once more face to face with those unnerving green eyes.
I lift my head up so that he won't be able to tell how nervous I'm feeling inside.
"Who do we have here?", he questions in a silky voice as he stares me down through the glass.
"This is Lady Rosaleen. She's a friend from earth, and we were hoping you might be able to answer some questions for us", Thor calmly says.
"Rosaleen", he says slowly, mulling my name in his mouth as though tasting it, "I'm intrigued how I can possibly help a mortal".
"I was hoping you'd be able to answer some questions I have about... about the infinity stones", I say whispering the last words at the end so the guards nearby might not hear.
