Zuko ~ New Morning

     It was a new morning in the Fire Nation and Zuko was sound asleep in his quarters. Since the war was over, Zuko was finally able to get some good sleep. As sun beams peered into his room, he woke up. He got up and went out on the balcony and looked at the courtyard before him. He gripped the railing as if he was bracing himself. Then suddenly you pop your head over the edge of the roof in front of Zuko's face.

     "Boo," you said and smiled. Zuko leaned forward and planted a soft kiss on your lips before speaking.

     "Good morning my little thief," he said with a big smile. "Still trying to scare me I see." You giggled and disappeared for a moment before pulling your body over the edge and perching on the railing between Zuko's arms. 

     "I'm not trying to scare you. If I wanted to do that, I would have gotten myself kidnapped," you said with a mischievous grin on your face. Zuko smirked and pressed his forehead to yours.

     "Hmm, is that so. I wouldn't be scared, I would be more driven by anger and determination to get you back. I would burn anyone who touched you," he said as he returned the grin. You smiled and closed the space between you and kissed him. You pulled away and hopped down, still between his arms. You leaned back against the railing and crossed your arms over your chest.

     "I love it when you get protective," you said as you brushed your nose against his. He chuckled at you and took a step closer to you.

     "I can tell. So what have you managed to accumulate over night," he asked. Your grim widened into a smile.

     "I'm surprised you haven't noticed it on me," you commented. Zuko stepped back for a moment and scanned your figure. Then a black sheath tucked inside your belt caught his eye.

     "The dagger," he said as he placed his hand over it. "How long have you had it," he asked. You wrapped your arms around his neck and answered.

     "A little over a week. Besides, I managed to find this in Azula's room," you said as you pulled out an amulet. It was an amulet that Zuko's mother had worn everyday. He was told that it was lost but his sister had it all along. His eyes widened as you placed it in his hands.

     "Wha... how? When did you find this, " he asked as he looked at it. 

     "Like I said, I found it in your sister's room. And I found it last night."

     "You were in the palace last night?"

     "Baby, I'm always in the palace whether you notice me or not. You've gotta remember, I don't have a home. And the only family I got left is June." He looked at you with glossy eyes. Then he pulled you closer and he hugged you. 

     "Thank you so much. I love you."

     "I know. I love me too," you said jokingly. He pulled away and chuckled at you. Then he kissed you passionately. 

     "I'm so lucky that you are mine," he mumbled against your lips. Then you smiled into the kiss.
