Sokka's POV

The group had to land and restock supplies. We had just been ambushed by three Fire Nation women and I don't even think they all could bend. They kept finding us and we just couldn't figure out why. But we managed to go find a good cover and hid Appa away in a large cave. We were all somewhat sleep-deprived. Aang was trying so hard not to fall asleep after the adrenaline finally wore off. My sister and Toph were out like lights, and I couldn't sleep for the life of me. We all were sitting around a light fire to keep warm. Dawn was already here and we needed food before the crazy Fire Nation women found us again.

I wrote a note in the dirt next to Katara and set out to find food. While flying to find a hiding place, I saw a town not too far from our camp. It was at least a 10-minute walk. Once I got into town, everyone was wearing neutral colors. It looked like a town for refugees to hide and make a new life. It was a peaceful place. I found a booth that sold fruits and vegetables and bought three weeks' worth of food. As I turned to leave, I bumped into a large burly man and dropped almost everything I had.

"Hey! Watch where you're going Water Tribe," he grunted at me.

"Look I'm sorry alright? I didn't see you," I replied, trying not to lose my cool. He just huffed at me before going on about his business. I rolled my eyes before picking back up my stuff. When I tried to stand up, the guy was back and he slapped everything out of my hands. "What the hell is your problem!?"

"I never said you could pick your stuff back up," he said with a nasty grin on his face. I could feel heat rush to my face.

"And why would I listen to you anyway? You look like you can barely count," I snapped back. He glared at me.

"Watch yourself, kid! You don't know who you're messing with," he said as he got in my face. His breath practicality hit me in the face; I almost dry heaved.

"Gosh, your breath smells worse than rotten penguin meat," I said. Then he grabbed a fistful of my shirt, pulling me to him.

"Maybe I'll just break your teeth instead," he said with a grin. When he did, he barely had any.

"Don't be mad at me! I wasn't the one who swallowed my teeth," I shot back. Right as his fist was about to hit me in the face, a body stepped in between me and the guy's hairy knuckled.

"Hey! Back off! He's with me!" It was a girl's voice. She had long black hair and she was just an inch or so shorter than me. When she stepped between me and him, she caught his fist. My eyes widened.

"And what are you going to do if I don't doll face," the brute asked with the nastiest look on his face. I could tell he was undressing her with his eyes and it made me sick. I watched as her knuckled slowly started turning white as she squeezed his hand. The more pressure she applied, the more he started to feel it. She managed to apply so much pressure, he had let go of me and got down on a knee from the pain.

"Don't you ever call me doll face," she said slowly. Then I noticed as her hand started turning red almost. The guy started whimpering from the pain.

"AHHH! Okay, okay! I get it," he begged as he trained to shake off the pain.

"Stay away from him and me, and we'll be okay. And if you ever decide to start thinking with your balls instead of whatever's left of your brains, there will be trouble. Now get outta my sight! You make me sick," she said as she let go of his hand and shoved him back. When he looked at his fist, there was a burn all over his knuckles. She burned him! When she turned to me I was stunned. She was absolutely gorgeous. Her looked like there were two different colors. Her skin was flawless, and she had small dots spotted across her nose. To avoid making anything more awkward, I started to pick up my things. She helped me out as well, picking up the food that was still good.

"Thanks for the help," I said after we both stood up. I took the bag from her and she smiled.

"No problem. You didn't deserve his crap," she said as she looked over her shoulder.

"Who was that guy anyway," I asked as we both started walking. She shook her head.

"Don't worry about him. He's the town blockhead. I'm Mizuki," she introduced herself.

"I'm Sokka."

"You stocking up for a big trip," she asked as she took a bag from me. Before I could retaliate, she insisted on helping me with the load. I thanked her before explaining my traveling situation.

"My sister, a group of friends, and I are taking a trip. We just stopped here for food and drink," I answered. She smiled at me.

"Well let me help you get the rest of the food you need. And then after, I'm going to take you to my father. He makes the best tea in town." I smiled and nodded.

"Okay." After about an hour of food shopping, she took me back to her house. A man with a long grey beard approached us and greeted me. He said his name was Iroh. After talking and drinking tea, I told them I should be on my way.

"Well, it was a pleasure meeting you my boy. Come back any time," Iroh said as she shook my hand I smiled at him.

"Thank you, sir. It was a pleasure to meet you too." Then a teenager with a burn over his eye walked into the room and I froze. When he looked at me, he stopped in his tracks.

"Who are you," he asked. I scoffed and shook my head.

"You seriously don't remember?! You nearly destroyed my village! And manhandled my grandmother," I exclaimed. Mizuki's eyes widened. It was like I struck a nerve.

"Please let me explain," he tried to speak but I wouldn't let him. I was too upset.

"Explain what? It's not like you actually cared! Do you realize how much damage you caused after you left?!" Mizuki put a gentle hand on my chest and pushed me back.

"Come on. Outside now," she demanded. I moved with her and sat outside with her.

"Why is he in there?! You have no idea what he is capable of! He is dangerous," I said as I paced in front of her. I ran my hands over my hair and shook my head. "How do you know him anyway?"

"That monster you are talking about is my cousin! He's like an older brother to me! My father has been trying to get him on the right path since his banishment. You don't know him as I do," she replied.

"Ha! I know enough. He's selfish, abrasive, short-tempered..."

"And emotionally and mentally scarred," Mizuki finisher for me. I stopped my rant and just looked at her. She grabbed my arm and got me to stop moving. "Sokka, he is a good person. He's just been through so much in his life. Just give him a chance and he will prove you wrong. Besides, just because we're Firebenders it doesn't make us all bad." I lowered my gaze. She had a point.

I guess I did jump to conclusions.

"Okay. But I should be going. Tell your father and cousin thanks for the tea. And thank you for your wonderful hospitality." I went to grab my bags and set out on my way. After I made it back to camp, I couldn't get her out of my head. Mizuki was all I saw when I shut my eyes that night. I barely knew her but one thing is for sure, I already fell for her.
