You and Iroh were fighting back to back; his fire bright orange, your fire deep blue. Zuko was fighting next to you but for some reason he was out of the game. His head wasn't in the right place and you could see it. There was something wrong with him. You burned a barrier between you, your father and your cousin and the attackers. Then you heard a shout and saw Zuko go down.
"Zuko," you shouted. You sprinted for him and grabbed him as he fell. You looked and saw that he had something sharp in the crook of his elbow. "Dad! Zuko's hurt! We need to get out of here now!" You scanned Zuko's body for more injuries and noticed that he had a burn on his side as well as a cut that went across his bicep. Iroh looked and his eyes widened. Iroh burned that last two attackers and took out the fire barrier you made. Zuko groaned as he reached for the needle in his arm. Iroh quickly fell at your side and examined his arm.
"No! Don't pull it out. Not here. We need to find sanctuary first," Iroh demanded. You nodded and looked at Zuko.
"There should be an abandoned town not to far from here. We can camp there for the night," you suggested to your father. He agreed and helped Zuko up. Day bled into night and the three of you had made camp in a broken down barn house. Your father was meditating and Zuko was laying next to you. A small flame was going with a pot of tea sitting there.
"I don't need you to take care of me. Please I am okay," Zuko said as he tried to sit up. You pushed him back down.
"Stop moving Zuko. I almost have it out. Besides I am taking care of you whether you like it or not," you said as you pushed the spike into his skin once more. He started to shout but stifled it the best he could. "Do you even know what you were just stabbed with," you asked him. Before he could give you an answer you gave the spike one last pull and it came out of his skin. He shouted and glared at you. You put your thumb over the puncture wound and pressed down to try and prevent bleeding.
"Hey! That hurt," he yelled.
"Well watch yourself on a battlefield next time and it might hurt less," you shot back. He rolled his eyes. "You didn't answer me Zuko. Do you know what this is?" You waved the quill like dart in his face.
"No. What is it," he asked. You examined the quill yourself before throwing it to the fire. You covered the open hole with a small piece of cloth and let it clot up on its own.
"It's a special dart that contains toxins. It will most likely take your bending away for a bit," you explained. Zuko's eyes widened.
"Y/n! Please tell me you are joking!?"
"I am sorry. But I'm not. Just rest. The toxins should wear off sometime soon." Then you tended to his burn and his open wound. You found some old clothes and soaked then in water and a healing elixir that you made out of herbs. After ringing out the cloth, you took off Zuko's shirt and wrapped the cloth around his torso. Then you wrapped his arm as well. Zuko made faces as you wrapped his body and arm; the elixir must have stung him. There that should do it, you thought.
By the time the moon was at its highest point in the sky, everyone was asleep. Zuko beside you was tossing and turning and shivering. He was dreaming as well. You woke when you heard him grunt. You looked at him and put a hand on his arm. His skin was cold against yours. His chi isn't warming him, you thought.
You got up and moved to him. At first, you tried to lay next to him to warm him. But it didn't work well. The fire was already gone and the only source of warmth was the embers left below the pot. You sat with your legs crossed at his head and pulled him semi into your lap. Then you shut your eyes and meditated.
The more you focused on your own chi, the warmer Zuko became. He started to relax more and toss and turn less. You were warming him by using your body's chi. So you stayed in a meditated state for the rest of the night. By the next morning, you were woken by Zuko. He put a gentle hand to your face.
"Good morning," he said in a soothing tone. You smiled at him.
"Good morning to you too. How do you feel," you asked.
"Drained. But better than yesterday somewhat." He let his hand drop and you leaned back on your hands. "Thank you for warming me up last night," Zuko said.
"Of course. That's what family is for. We look out for each other." Zuko smiled at you. He attempted to sit up and you tried to help him. Once he was up right, you checked his wraps. As you unwrapped the cloth, the wounds looked better. You smiled.
"What? What is it," Zuko asked as he just watched your facial expression.
"There is nothing to worry about. You are healing well. The wounds will need to heal on their own now," you said as you completely unwrapped Zuko's torso and arm. When you burned the clothes you looked at Zuko. "I have a good feeling about today," you said. You and Zuko smiled at each other until Your father snored very loudly. You both looked at Iroh before starting to laugh.
