Haru ~ Taken

        The moon was high in the sky and you and Haru were finishing up chores. Haru told you about what happened at the Mines. You were proud of him for saving that old man, but it was a big risk.

"You know I am proud of your Haru, but I don't know. Something doesn't sit right with me," you said as you took the basket from your older brother and stocked the shelves behind the counter.

"How do you mean Y/n/n?" Haru leaned on the counter top on his elbows and watched you place jars on the shelf as you replied.

"I don't know how to explain it Rue. It just feels like something is going to happen. Almost like..."

"Like when dad was taken," Haru finished.

You stopped what you were doing and just nodded your head. When your father went to fight off the Fire Nation soldiers, you had gotten a strong tingling sensation under your ribs. Three days past and that sensation had gotten worse, and on that third night a messenger showed up at your door saying that your father was taken. You told Haru about it, and at first he didn't want to believe it. But once they were given that message, he never doubted you whenever you had gotten that feeling.

Because you were not a bender, it was like you were blessed with another gift. A gift that you often felt was a curse. All it seemed to do was warn you when something terrible was going to happen. Suddenly, there was a knock at your door. The tingling sensation in your stomach intensified. Haru was about to go and open the door before you quickly grabbed his wrist. He stopped and looked at you with a confused look.

"What is it," he questioned in a very low whisper.

"Do not open that door. Let me open it. You need to hide," you replied back in a low and frantic whisper. Haru nodded and quickly ran for the other room. You fixed yourself before going to open the door. You were greeted by a swarm of Fire Nation soldiers and an old man.

"Is this the Earth bender," the front soldier asked the old man. The man stepped closer to you with an angry expression.

"No... no the bender was a boy," the old man replied.

"Can I help you gentlemen with something," you asked. The soldiers lifted an eyebrow at you before answering.

"We had received word there was a young male Earth bender residing at these residents," the trooper replied. You crossed your arms and tapped your chin.

"Hmm... Nope. The only people that reside in this house is my mother and myself. The only Earth bender in this house was taken years ago," you replied. Saying that burned your tongue. The troops looked back at the grouchy old man.

"You are testing our patience old man! We do not have time for these games," the trooper exclaimed to the old man.

"No, no I swear what I know what I saw! There was even a young lady there too." The old man looked from the troopers back to you. His eyes narrowed at you before he blurted, "And that's her right there!" That dirty old son of a gun, you thought. The troops then grabbed you and tried to take you from the house. Then two rocks shot past you and hammered the two troops that had you in the head, knocking them over. The leader grabbed your upper arm before a voice boomed from behind you.

"Let her go! It is me you want! Let her go and I will leave with you," Haru demanded. The leader looked at you and got down to looked at you eye to eye.

"Lying to a Fire soldier can get you in serious trouble young lady! Fortunately for you, young lady, we are not here for you." The soldier pulled you closer and you squeaked as his grip tightened around your bicep. You heard Haru yell at him, but he was shut down by the other troopers. "But lie to us again, we will burn your pretty little shop down with you and your pathetic mother in it," the leader stated in a harsh and low tone. Tears filled your eyes as rage and fear burned in your chest. He then tossed you back and you stumbled into Haru.

"Are you okay," Haru questioned. Right as he asked, he noticed a hand print burned into your sleeve and on your skin. "Son of a bitch," Haru murmured under his breath. You didn't notice any pain until Haru started to wrap your arm. You winced as tears began to overflow your eyes.

"Why did you do that," you asked in a harsh tone. "Why are you willingly giving yourself up!"

"You are not going to be taken away because of me. I can not lose you too Y/n!" Before you could even argue, you were tossed to the side by troopers and they took Haru. Tears clouded your vision as you watched Haru being taken from you. "I love you Y/n," Haru mouthed before he disappeared into the darkness. You sat up on your knee as tears slid down your face.

"Serves him right for using his horrid abilities." You looked up and the old man was still at your door. You got up and glared at him. You walked to him, anger filling your chest and eyes.

"What my brother did was save your pathetic wasted life! If it wasn't for his "horrid abilities" you would have been buried alive!" You stepped to him getting in his face. The old man watched as your eyes went dark and cold. "If it were up to me, I would have let earth swallow you," you said in a menacing tone. His eyes widened and his triumphant expression melted into fear. All you wanted to do was just punch him in the face, break his nose, make him bleed, something. It took everything in you to not physically hurt him. You just wanted for him to feel the pain that he had caused you and more.

"You wouldn't do th..." You cut him off.

"I sure as hell would! And I would suggest that you turn around right now and leave this place while you still can stand and breath," you threatened. You watched as the old man's fear turned into genuine terror. He backed away from you and ran as fast as his hopeless legs could carry him. As he ran down the path though, he had tripped over a stone that was out of place, breaking his brittle bones as he fell. You turned and walked back to your house as you heard him shout in pain. The fire in chest died down, but was replaced with sorrow. You collapsed to your knees in the middle of the shop and screamed until you couldn't anymore. Then you leaned forward onto your hands and cried.
