~Amelia's POV~

When we returned to the cottage, I pretended to be sick in the bathroom. Hange helped me to bed and stormed off to find the culprit of my illness. I suggested that perhaps some of the food we ate at breakfast could have been off. So Hange was scavenging through the cupboards, trying to determine what it was, and not questioning the fact that they weren't sick themselves.

I laid in bed, bored out of my mind. If it had been any other day, I would have taken advantage of my fake illness and napped the day away. But as I'd actually slept well last night, I was wide awake.

Scanning the room for something to occupy myself with, my eyes landed on a bookshelf in the corner of the room. I got up from my bed and sauntered over there, perusing the selection of books. I managed to find some books about anatomy that were right up my alley and a romance novel. Two contrasting genres but the two that happened to be my favourite.

--------

About an hour or two passed before Hange came to check on me. I actively kept an ear out for them when I was reading and didn't let myself get too enthralled in my book. When I heard their footsteps approaching up the stairs, I slid the books under my pillow and acted as if I'd been sleeping the entire time.

Adding a yawn for effect, I greeted them. "Hi, Hange."

Hange had a sympathetic look on their face that made me feel a little guilty. "Hi, Amelia. Sorry for waking you. Are you feeling any better?" They came over to me, sitting on the edge of the bed next to me.

"Yeah, I'm feeling a lot better now. I probably threw up what was making me feel sick when we came in," I lied swiftly.

I was actually quite proud of my acting, actually. When I was 'throwing up', I made sure that they could hear me from outside the door by adding some sound effects to make it more realistic. I'd perfected it from my days as a child not wanting to go to school. Not that my mum had ever believed me.

"That's good to hear. I think I found what had been causing it. Mouldy bread. I must have been lucky and not gotten any slices with it on," they explained to me.

"Yeah, that must've been it," I agreed with them, surprised that my lie actually turned out to be half true and that the mouldy bread was now in the compost.

"When everyone else gets here, everything will be restocked so this shouldn't happen again," they slid off from the bed and got to their feet. "I'm going to let you rest some more. I'll be working downstairs if you need anything."

"Thanks, Hange. I will," I readjusted myself on the bed as if I was getting ready to go back to sleep.

Hange was heading to the door when I stopped them with a question. "Wait, can I just ask when everyone else is going to be arriving?"

"Sometime this evening, I believe," they replied.

This evening, I would see Levi again and I was determined to make him talk to me again. I'd missed him over the past couple of days we hadn't spoken. I was just getting used to our little routine and he'd gone and shut me out. I reminded myself that this was just a little setback in our friendship and that'd we'd get back to where we were before soon.

With a newfound determination, I grabbed my book and continued from where I'd left off. But my mind started to drift off into scenarios about our conversation would go. My brain wasn't engaging with the words in front of me and I felt my eyes start to shut.

----------

I was startled awake by the sound of loud voices and doors slamming downstairs. They must've arrived. I sprung out of my bed and headed straight for the mirror to fix my appearance. It was a good thing that I did. My hair was sticking out in various places and my clothes were crinkled. After taming my hair and clothes, I went downstairs to greet everyone.
