~Amelia~

"Ugh, my head," Amelia groaned as she woke up, rubbing her aching neck. She remembered Erwin saying something to Levi and then nothing. From the pain in her neck, Levi must have knocked her out.

Taking in her dank surroundings, Amelia attempted to figure out where she was. The first thing she noticed was how dark it was. The only source of light coming in was from a tiny window above her. A barred window. Realisation struck her. She realised that she was in a prison cell. Sniffing the air, the stench of urine from the other cells confirmed it for her.

Amelia's hands clenched the disgusting bed beneath her. She willed her body to move so she could sit up and have a better look at the room around her. She managed to but not without a lot of effort. Had Levi needed to hit her so hard?

As she looked out outside of her cell, Amelia practically jumped out of her skin. The chains attached to her feet and hands rattled loudly as she did. Commander Erwin and Levi sat outside of her cell, staring her down intently. The presence of the chairs they were sitting on indicated to her that they had been sitting there for a long time.

"Hello, Amelia," Erwin greeted, resting his chin on interlocked hands.

"Hello?" Amelia responded hesitantly. "Just how long have the two of you been there?" She had heard from Furlan that she tended to snore. Another thing to add to the list of embarrassing myself in front of handsome individuals.

"Not for too long, don't worry. The guard that was stationed outside let us know that you were starting to stir," he reassured, calming her down a little.

Amelia attempted to compose herself. But she had the Commander of the Scouts and Humanity's strongest soldier staring her down. Who wouldn't be nervous in that situation?

"Good. But I do have to say... Was the prison cell necessary? If you hadn't knocked me out you would have learned that I would have willingly gone with you," Amelia bit back. She was a little grouchy from the headache that had started to pulsate in the back of her skull.

Erwin appeared a little surprised at her attitude. "Well, I suppose I should apologise for that and you being in a prison cell. However, I do hope that you understand that with the situation we are in we need to be cautious around people with powers that we don't understand. You do claim to not be a Titan shifter, but how are we supposed to believe that? So until we build up some trust between us, you will have to remain in this prison cell."

"You do have a point," she agreed. She didn't exactly want to rot away in a prison cell so she thought about how exactly could she gain Erwin's trust without revealing too much about herself.

Pondering on it for a few moments, Amelia decided to suggest something to him. "How about I tell you a little about myself and then we can go from there?"

"Seems reasonable," Erwin agreed with a pleased smile on his face. Undoubtedly, she had played into his little ploy. But it was either this or remain imprisoned.

"My story is a long one and you're probably a busy man so I'll summarise," Erwin flashed her an amused look. "After a normal day, I went to bed and woke up outside of the Walls. I still have no idea how I managed to get out there. Luckily, it was night time so there were no Titans about. I ran until I found some shelter.

The next morning, a Titan found me and I thought that was the end. However, instead of killing me, the Titan stopped in front of me. He insisted on me taking his hand so I did. When I touched him, my head was flooded with his thoughts and I could somehow understand him." Amelia decided to stop there to gauge how Erwin and Levi were reacting to her words. She had left the parts about Annie, Reiner, and Bertholdt. She needed to keep as much information as she could for bartering purposes.

"So, you had no previous knowledge of your ability before then?" Erwin asked.

"No, I had never seen a real Titan before that day either. So I guess I may have always been able to do this," she lied, trying to make it sound like she was still from this world.

"And this was the Titan that we found you with?"

"Yes, it was. He's been my travelling companion and protector ever since that day. He's been the sole reason that I've survived as long as I have," Amelia recalled fondly. He truly was her best friend, something she never thought she'd say about a Titan.

"I shall believe what you are saying for now. Although, I can feel that you are being vague on purpose. Which is smart of you. I am satisfied enough for now so we can pick up this conversation at a later date," Erwin stated, pulling himself to his feet.

"Levi, I assign you to keep an eye on her. One wrong move and you know what to do." Levi nodded to his superior, turning to her with intense eyes. She could tell that he wasn't happy with this arrangement. But she'd managed to convince Erwin to let her out of her prison cell and that was something to be proud of herself for.

"For now, we are keeping you a secret from the Military Police and Garrisons as I'm sure they'll be equally as interested in you as we are." Amelia didn't like the hidden meaning behind that statement. "Levi, I need you to make sure that she keeps a low profile. Don't let her go outside of headquarters, take her back down here at sunset, and give me a report of everything she does at the end of the day. She'll continue sleeping down here until we can be sure that she's not a threat." Erwin started to leave, not sparing her another glance. "But she's all yours, Levi," Erwin joked and continued to leave.

Amelia sat there in silence, flabbergasted at Erwin's joke. What was she supposed to say after that?

But just as Erwin was about to leave, something popped into her head. "Just one more thing, Commander."

"Yes?"

"Could I have my things back? I believe I was carrying a bag before you took me." Amelia had to get those maps back, they contained important information she could use against Erwin.

"I'm sorry but you weren't carrying anything on you when we found you," Erwin replied but she could tell that he was lying. He must have found the maps and was keeping them for himself. Amelia felt a bit uneasy knowing that he had them. Erwin wasn't supposed to know so much about Paradis Island at this point of the plot. She thanked herself for not going into too much detail on maps so hopefully, she hadn't messed up too much of the story.

"If you let me know what you were carrying with you, I can get them replaced for you." He flashed her a wide smile to seal the deal.

"It's fine, there wasn't anything important in there." On the off chance that he hadn't seen them, she wasn't about to bring attention to them.

As if on cue to break the tension, Amelia's stomach decided to rumble. "What do you guys do for food around here?" she asked tentatively, patting her empty stomach.
