~Amelia's POV~
After Kenny left, Rod quickly whispered something to Historia and departed. Now that the emotional manipulator was gone, it was my chance to try to get Historia on my side. Easier said than done with a gag in my mouth.
Historia watched Rod leave with a blank expression on her face. Her mind was elsewhere, likely occupied with thoughts about her half-sister. I thrashed about, screaming at the top of my lungs. I was loud enough for Eren. He flinched at my voice, raising his bowed head to look at me. Historia noticed too, raising a concerned eyebrow. Had she not noticed that I'd been here this entire time?
She traipsed over to me, bending down to reach my level. Examining the state I was in, her hand reached for my face, removing the gag from my mouth.
"Amelia," she breathed out. "Why are you here?"
I tried to explain, but my voice was hoarse from all of the shouting. Instead, I erupted into a stream of coughs. Historia's hand found my back, hoisting me to a seating position against one of the crystal pillars nearby.
"I was kidnapped alongside you and Eren," I explained feeling like I was stating the obvious. "But now isn't the time for chit-chat, Historia. I'm sure you're aware of your father's plan for Eren. Please don't go through with it. I'm begging you. I'm sure there is another way that doesn't involve Eren losing his life," I pleaded to her. From the lack of emotion on her face, I could tell that I wasn't getting through.
"I'm sorry, but I have to do this. For humanity's sake." Pain was evident in her voice, her face was turned firmly away from mine.
Then, footsteps started to approach. Historia jumped to her feet, rushing over to where she had stood before. Her only mistake was that she'd left my mouth ungagged.
"At last, there's nobody here but us," Rod commented, ignoring my existence once again and joining Historia at her side. He appeared the same as before, the only difference was a leather bag in his hand. His plan was happening right now and I needed to delay it for as long as possible.
"I think you're forgetting about someone," I called out to Rod in a sarcastic tone, trying to capture his attention.
Rod slowly turned around to face me. Unfortunately, there was no sign of displeasure on his face. Only a cool calmness, which was not exactly what I was hoping for. I planned to distract him by getting under his skin.
"Ah, Amelia. I was just about to get around to you," Rod placed the leather bag on the ground next to Historia, striding over to me. Just as his daughter had, he went down onto his knees to meet my eye level.
"Why am I here?" I demanded fiercely. I didn't want to be left in suspense anymore.
Rod took in a deep breath, his eyes meeting mine. "It's complicated... but I'll try to explain it to you as best as I can. I've had spies placed within the Scouts for many years now. Until recently, they were just keeping an eye on my daughter under my orders. I had to make sure she was safe as my last and only heir.
My spies are who have also been keeping me updated on Eren's situation, but also on you. The one who can communicate with Titans and know of the past and the future. But also have no connection to my bloodline or shift into a Titan.
You were too intriguing to not keep an eye on. Especially when my spies divulged to me the day that you arrived on this island; The very same day when the tragedy happened. The day that Eren's father massacred my children." A melancholy look beheld his face. "So, Amelia, I must ask you this. Do you remember when you gained the ability to read the minds of Titans?"
With furrowed eyebrows, I answered him. "It was the morning after I escaped from Annie and her comrades."
"I can't say for sure that this is the reason why you have the power that you do. To be frank, in the last one hundred years, nothing like this has ever happened, or was supposed to happen." Rod let out a deep sigh. What exactly did he mean by meant to happen? Did he know that I wasn't from this world? That I was never supposed to be here, nor have this power?
