~Amelia~
Amelia was startled awake as a droplet of cool rain rolled down her cheek. Too tired to care, she reached out for her duvet, only for it not to be there. Its absence suddenly made Amelia realise how cold she was. Goosebumps erupted over her skin as a frigid breeze attacked her lightly clothed body. Then, Amelia noticed the ache in her side as her ribcage dug into something much more rigid and damper than her mattress. Forcing her eyes open, she was utterly mortified when forests, grass and mountains had replaced her messy bedroom.
"What the fuck is going on!" Amelia exclaimed out loud.
Her heart beat loudly in her ears, and her breath quickened. Amelia reassured herself that she must still be dreaming: 'I am dreaming. This has to be a dream. Even if it was the most vivid one I've ever had.' Frantically, she pinched at the skin on her upper arm. Amelia used any method she could think of when she remained—jumping up and down, tripping herself so she would fall over, and progressing her pinching into slapping. However, every attempt that Amelia made ultimately failed. The blades of grass tickling her feet, the dirt gathering under her fingernails, and the layer of sweat sticking to her pyjamas only provided more evidence that she was, in fact, very much awake.
"No, no, no!" Amelia repeated to herself. "Mum, Dad, Matthew! Is this some kind of joke?"
As Amelia fell to the ground in defeat, tears welled in her eyes as realisation struck her. Her eyes darted around at her surroundings, desperately searching for some sign of civilisation. However, all she was met with were trees and the loose dirt on the ground next to her, vibrating. 'Vibrating?' Amelia thought to herself.
The vibrations got progressively louder, the sound resembling that of a charging elephant. Then, the rain lessened, and Amelia could make out the creature's silhouette bolting towards her.
The first thing Amelia noticed was how huge it was—it was like something out of a nightmare, with bulging eyes and a fleshy, bulbous body. Thankfully, it was far enough away that Amelia couldn't make out any more details about its appearance, and she sure as hell wasn't going to stick around any longer to find out.
Willing her legs to move, Amelia pushed herself off the ground, scurrying away from the creature as quickly as possible. However, the vast difference in size between Amelia and the beast meant it could cover way more ground than she could with her comparatively short legs. Eventually, the creature got so close to Amelia that the back of her body burned from the heat emanating from its body. Amelia vehemently rejected the fact that she was likely going to die here- in this strange place without saying goodbye to her family, finishing her degree, or having any lasting friendships or romances.
However, just as Amelia was about to give up, she heard the creature's footsteps halt. Cautiously peeking behind her, she watched the beast twist its substantial gait in the opposite direction and scamper away. Amelia had no idea what had caught the beast's attention. Still, she wouldn't let the opportunity to escape from it slip away.

After running as far as her legs could carry her, Amelia finally decided it was safe enough for her to stop. Quickly glancing behind her, Amelia searched for any sign of the creature tailing her. Instead, Amelia was met with a picturesque scene of a low-lying sun on the horizon, bathing the unfamiliar land in hues of amber. Despite its hideous inhabitants, the flora and fauna of the strange place Amelia found herself in had quite the allure.
Wiping the sweat from her brow, Amelia took in the forest before her. After traversing many miles of vacant land, Amelia was pleased to have discovered some shelter. Although such a small forest wouldn't provide much protection against the beast if it returned, it would allow her to put some distance between the two of them.
