~Amelia's POV~
It was the next day and I was in the kitchen helping prepare lunch with Connie. Eren was cleaning manically, insisting that Levi would have our heads if it were too messy. He was right, but no one seemed to listen to him. Jean, Mikasa, Armin, Sasha and the blonde girl (who I found out was Krista but now goes by Historia) had just returned from doing their morning chores. Armin was struggling to carry a large pail of milk, I snorted at the sight of it.
Levi and Hange were absent. They had left earlier in the morning, saying they'd return at lunchtime, which was soon. I, however, was focused on peeling the potatoes. It was a monotonous job and all I seemed to be doing around here. It was potatoes with every meal in this world. I wasn't complaining though, it wasn't like you could just go to the supermarket and get something else.
Sighing, I finished up with the potatoes. Levi and I had sparred for a good couple of hours last night. His injury had healed nicely so he was back to his old self again. Resulting in me being covered in bruises and aching everywhere today.
"Hey, you guys!" Eren roared at them. He was dressed in his cleaning clothes, threatening with his broom like a distraught housewife. "Take your shoes off before you come in!" Eren insisted as everyone fluttered in the door.
"What? Can't you see we're carrying stuff? I'll take them off when I've put it all down," Jean whined at him, laying the sack of potatoes he was holding down on the side.
Eren inched closer to him, desperation in his eyes. "Do you think that attitude will satisfy Captain Levi? If I hadn't made your bed this-"
"Quit nagging! Who you do think you are, my mother?" Jean raged at him, spit flying out of his mouth.
"Guys! Stop fighting!" I called out to them. I was the oldest here with Levi and Hange absent so it was my responsibility to keep the peace whilst they were gone.
Both of their heads spun round. "It was him that started it!" They shouted in sync, pointing accusingly at each other.
"God, I don't care who started it. But, Jean, I have to say I'm on Eren's side with this one. The captain will punish you if you even leave a speck of dust behind," I warned him, grabbing my knife again and cutting the potatoes into smaller chunks.
"See," Eren teased him, "you should listen to her or you'll regret it!"
"Ugh, whatever," Jean admitted his defeat.
"We're back," Mikasa called out as she came through the door with Historia. Mikasa was carrying an axe whereas Historia was holding a pile of chopped wood.
"Wait, were you just chopping wood?" Armin went over to them, a worried expression on his face.
"Gotta keep in shape," Mikasa replied nonchalantly.
"Mikasa, you're injured. You need to rest," I scolded her. "No more chopping wood otherwise I'll tell the captain."
Mikasa gave me a blank expression. "Don't try and stop her. She won't even listen to me," Eren explained, "I even saw her doing sit ups in her room earlier!"
"You perv!" Jean schreeched at Eren.
A sad expression overcame Sasha's face. "It almost feels like we're back in the cadet corps."
"Yeah..." Armin's face also turned serious. "Why do you think that we were chosen to be in Levi's squad? Protecting Eren and Historia is such an important mission..."
Suddenly, they all turned to look at me. "Don't look at me," I put my hands up in the air, "I'm in the dark as much as you are."
"Sasha, what did I just see you put in your bag?" Armin asked her, disappointment evident in his face.
