~Amelia~
Amelia's eyelids were far too heavy to open. Subsequently, she was hit with an intense wave of pain and nausea radiating over her body. It was too much for her even to move a single finger. Her brain felt foggy as she tried to recollect what had happened before she fell unconscious. Then, Amelia's nose started to tingle from the familiar smell of antiseptics. It was all she needed to guess where she was.
As opening her eyes was too taxing, Amelia listened out for anyone around her instead. At first, all she could hear was the voices of boisterous cadets passing by a nearby window. But once she managed to drown them out, Amelia could hear a scratching of pen against paper beside her. Her eyelids twitched. She desperately wanted to open them and see who it was. However, just as she was about to take a peek, the curtain surrounding her bed was pulled open.
"Has anything changed since I've been gone?" the voice Amelia recognised as the doctor asked whoever was next to her.
The scribbling halted. "No, nothing," Amelia heard a drained, deep voice grumble. Levi. She should have known it was him. After all, it was his job to stick to her like glue.
"I see. Most patients that I knock out myself are usually awake by now. But her healing abilities have been working overtime for the last couple of days, so it's good that she's getting some rest," the doctor commented. Amelia felt his leg brush up against the side of the bed. "They truly are a wonder, though. I mean, look at her side now. It's as if there was nothing there to begin with." Goosebumps erected across Amelia's skin as the doctor lifted her shirt. She resisted the urge to shiver.
"Yeah, whatever," Levi dismissed, earning a chuckle from the doctor.
Amelia felt herself start to doze off again as her interest in their conversation waned. Yet, as she was about to let herself fall into a slumber, someone slammed the door to the infirmary open.
"Corporal!" a frantic voice exclaimed as they darted over to Levi. The feet of Levi's chair screeched against the wood floor as he propelled himself out of it.
"What is it?" Levi demanded sternly.
The cadet's footsteps stopped suddenly beside the bed. "Something has happened!" they panted.
The doctor inquired, "What happened? Was someone else attacked?" It was a valid question. If Annie had somehow found out that Amelia had told Erwin of her true identity, he could have been her next target. Or, Annie could have decided to try to kidnap Eren again. Both options were plausible.
Finally catching their breath, the cadet continued their explanation. "No, no human was hurt."
Amelia's stomach dropped. The only other beings in the Scouts that were important enough for a cadet to charge over to tell their Corporal about their wellbeing were the three Titans for whom Amelia had already requested more protection. One of which happened to be her best friend.
As her heart pumped violently in her chest, Amelia felt the fatigue leaving her body. Her eyelids burst open. But Levi and the doctor were too invested in what the cadet had to say to notice.
"It was Hange's Titans! Someone sneaked in when the guards were switching watches and killed them!" The cadet finally managed to get out.
Amelia's worst fear had come true. Instantly, she threw her covers off herself. Ignoring the startled faces in the room, Amelia sprinted towards the door. She had memorised the route from the infirmary to the container-like area where she'd visited Furlan with Hange yesterday. As she willed her legs to go as fast as they could, Amelia felt she was back on Earth, competing in a race. Except this time, her race was only against the clock.
