~Amelia's POV~
As soon as we returned to the cottage, I went straight to Eren. With the help of Mikasa and Jean, we managed to haul him all the way up to his bed. From there, I was able to treat him better. There was a med-kit in the house in case of emergencies that I found on my first day here. It was always wise to have some medical supplies around for times like these. I cleaned up his wounds and disinfected them, proceeding to bandage him up again. Most of the blood had fizzled away but his healing was slower than usual, most likely due to exhaustion. Eren needed rest and I would try my best to force him to do it before Levi and Hange came back from Trost.
"How is he?" Mikasa came up from behind me, offering me a cup of tea. I blew the steam off the top, taking a large, enthusiastic gulp.
"Thanks, I needed that," I smiled at her, "he's doing much better. He seems to be regenerating properly. I don't think there's any need to worry about him." I tried to console her, even though I knew she would continue to fret anyway.
"Thank you for treating him," she thanked me quietly, placing herself at the foot of his bed, a sad smile on her lips. She really loved him, no matter how much Eren tried to ignore it. I hoped that her feelings would be reciprocated one day.
"It's no problem. Got to use all of this medical knowledge for something," I chuckled to my past self, studying her ass off to pass her exams.
"Where did you learn about it?" she asked me. I looked at her with raised eyebrows, taken aback. Mikasa had never tried to start a conversation with me before. I was convinced that she hated me with the looks she used to give me. I didn't blame her for it, she was just being cautious around a potential danger.
"Back at home, I used to study medicine in hopes of becoming a doctor," I elucidated.
"Why didn't you finish?" She peered over at me, taking her eyes off Eren.
"I had other obligations, I guess. It wasn't really my choice," I turned my eyes away from her, not wanting to think about my ruined life plans anymore.
"I understand. Sorry I pressed you, I've just never met anyone else like me. Apart from my mother," Mikasa explained, twiddling her fingers nervously. I'd forgotten that there weren't any other Asian people within the Walls apart from Mikasa. It must've been quite the shock to see me, someone like herself.
"I'd love to answer your questions at another time. My home is just painful for me to talk about as I miss it dearly," I told her, feeling a wave of sadness pass through my body, "I try not to think about it too often." Although, it's all I seem to be doing since I came to the walls. I guess seeing other people and forming new connections reminded me of the old ones from back home.
"I see," she said, looking over to Eren.
"I should probably get going. I'm absolutely filthy after all of that." There was a funky smell clinging to me that I just had to get rid of. "I'll return after dinner to take another look at Eren. You should come down and help us prepare." I wasn't trying to coax her away from him, knowing she would rather starve herself than leave his side.
"Maybe, we'll see." That was a polite no then.
----------
Two days passed and Eren was pretty much recovered. Yesterday, he had insisted that he was fine, trying to convince me to let him out of bed. But I forced him to stay there for an extra day. He didn't realise it himself but he needed it. With all of the pressure of saving humanity on his shoulders, he was close to breaking. Regardless, he was smiling a lot more this morning and peeling potatoes with super speed. Evidently, he was feeling a bit better with all of the rest.
