~Amelia's POV~
My eyelids twitched under the harsh sunlight of the morning. I awoke, delirious and confused. I was back in my sleeping bag, not remembering how I had gotten there. I recalled the events of the night before, the warmth of Levi's body pressed into mine. Had I been so exhausted that I had dreamt the whole thing? Did my conscience feel so guilty that I tried to fix everything in my sleep?
I sprung up like a meerkat, searching around me. Everything else appeared as it had before I went to sleep. Levi's sleeping bag was still vacant with no traces of him ever having used it. The spot where we sat together was also empty. He must have gotten up early and done some recon before our trek back to Trost.
Heaving a heavy sigh, I slid out of the sleeping bag and checked on Sasha and Armin. Sasha's bandage only had a few specks of blood on it, suggesting that her wound had started to clot properly. It was better to leave it until we returned home and she could get it treated properly.
With all of my shuffling about, Armin began to stir. "Amelia?" he inquired, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.
"Good morning, Armin. Are you feeling okay?" I was sure he was fine but it didn't hurt to ask.
"Oh yes, I'm completely fine apart from being utterly starving. Is this how Eren feels after every time he shifts? I remember him always eating enough to feed three people after one of Hange's experiments," he joked with a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes.
"Yeah, pretty much," Eren appears out of nowhere. "My stomach is tearing itself apart right now." Eren sits down next to the two of us, rubbing his complaining stomach.
"It seems that everyone is awake now so we can try and scrap together some breakfast," I announced, going over to where Hange was to ask them what food we had left.
"Hey, Hange!" I greeted them, slapping their shoulder playfully.
"Oh, Amelia! Good morning! You know I managed to think of some more questions to ask you about Earth. You mentioned those devices called 'mobile phones'. How do they work? What exactly is their purpose? How exactly are they 'mobile'?" I was happy that Hange wasn't mad at me for lying to them. After all, apart from Levi, they were one of the people that I was close to here. I just didn't know how many more questions I had the energy to answer.
"Hange, later, I promise. Everyone's asking about breakfast. Do we have any rations left to pass around?" I asked, attempting to steer the conversation in a different direction- one far, far away from questioning every little detail about my life back on Earth.
"Well, we pretty much ate everything last night. Levi went out earlier to see if he could recover any of the food from the other squads that didn't make it..." they trailed off with a melancholy expression.
"Ah, I see," I replied, not knowing what else to say. But that explained the mystery of the disappearing Levi. "I'll go let the others know."
They gave me a weak smile in response and I returned to where everyone else was gathered. Hange joined us soon thereafter and we chatted about what would happen when we returned.
"So, about that punishment for disobeying orders? What exactly will that entail?" I asked Hange.
"Well, usually it's a month of confinement in the dungeons but since you disobeyed Levi, it's up to him to decide," they elucidated.
My eyebrows raised. "Levi gets to decide?" If everything last night had been a dream, Levi still hated me meaning I may never get out of the dungeons.
Hange sniggered at my reaction. "What's so funny?" I inquired.
