Sherlock ran up the stairs two by two, hurrying to the neighbor's door. She rapped her knuckles on the door rhythmically and smiled when she heard footsteps. The door cracked open to reveal a short man with blonde hair.
"Yes?" He asked politely. Sherlock flashed him her best smile, wanting to make a good impression.
"Hello! I'm your neighbor from downstairs. I noticed you have a dog. I've heard it run around and bark a lot."
"Oh no, I'm sorry. He's very noisy. I'll take him to my sister's house and tell her to take care of him."
"No no no no! I don't mind! I was just wondering if I could pet him." Sherlock smiled when John's face showed a grin. He let out a laugh and ushered her to come in.
From the couch came running a small bulldog puppy. Sherlock 'aw'ed and knelt down to pet the puppy, who licked her hand in response. John closed the door, not wanting the dog to run away.
"What's his name?"
"Gladstone." John responded, crossing his arms and watching amusedly as his neighbor and his dog got along.
"He sure is lucky to have such a good looking owner." Sherlock said, rubbing Gladstone's belly. John's face instantly got red, taken aback by the comment.
"T-Thank you." John said, clearing his throat. Sherlock shot him a smirk over her shoulder before continuing to pet the dog.
