Meredith was laughing and she was kind of dancing as she stood in the master bath, brushing her teeth. Derek had left in the morning for surgery and she had the day off. She was going to enjoy it. No husband to try to impress, no work to do and she was considering going shopping or maybe just spend the day in bed reading. There were so many things she could do as she listened to the radio, dancing around in her gray boyshorts and one of Derek's sweatshirts. It had been a week since the night on the couch where they had talked about being intimate and that had made everything better. They still snuck in the kisses and the tender touching but Meredith was completely happy for the moment just being around him. Things were good.
She turned off the water, pulling her hair into some messy and silly bun before shaking her hips out the bedroom. She should get dressed, but nobody was home and she was in the middle of nowhere so boyshorts and a sweatshirt seemed perfect. It was amazing and she was going to enjoy herself. She was going to be the person she wanted to be today.
As she stopped in front of the mirror, she lifted her top and examine her body. She was in good shape, she had great boobs and she didn't think she looked bad at all. Maybe it was the music and the good mood, but Meredith couldn't imagine why Bradley had never wanted to touch her. She wasn't bad. That was all she could think about as the doorbell rang and she frowned slightly. Down the stairs she ran figuring it was Derek who found a reason to come back or Christina who wanted to get her out of the house. She opened the door quickly, frowning when she saw an older, familiar woman and her eyes went wide. "Mrs Shepherd!"
"I...Good morning, Dear." Derek's mother smiled. She had met Meredith once before when she came to visit Seattle and now she was standing in the doorway of her son's house, half dressed.
"You're....you're not in New York. I mean you know you're not in New York but you're...Derek didn't say you were coming." Meredith's face turned red as she felt the cool air hit her bare legs.
"I wanted to surprise him. I take it he's not home." Mrs. Shepherd smiled.
"He has a surgery..." Meredith peaked inside the house before opening the door. "Come in..."
"Thank you, dear."
"So um....did you have a good trip?" Meredith breathed, pulling the sweatshirt as far down as she could.
"It was lovely. The flight was very easy. And it's wonderful to see you."
"It's great to see you too." Derek's Mom was so kind. She had treated Meredith so kindly when she had met her, even sending her a sympathy card after the miscarriage and now Meredith was standing barely dressed in her son's home.
"Thought...you must be cold." Mrs. Shepherd chuckled. "Why don't you run upstairs and...put something on. I'll be in the kitchen."
"Yeah...sounds good. I'll be right back." Meredith blushed, quickly rushing out of the room and up the stairs. Shit. Crap. She wasn't even sure where her phone was right now or she'd text Derek and ask him what the fuck was going on. Instead, she pulled her hair out of the bun and slid on a pair of her jeans from the floor before rushing back down the steps.
"Do you know where Derek keeps the coffee?" His mother asked as Meredith came back into the kitchen. "I can't seem to remember."
"First cabinet on the right next to his fish oil pills."
"He's still taking that?" Mrs. Shepherd laughed, shaking her head.
"He is." Meredith grimaced.
"Would you like some?" She asked, grabbing the canister of coffee.
"Oh...no that's okay." Meredith breathed. Her stomach was turning because she had no idea what was going on and right now, she was focused on wishing Derek's mother hadn't found her here.
