Aly's POV:
It didn't take long for us to return home, and when we did, it was nightfall.
We parked up our vehicles in the Hanger Bay, and immediately got to work trying to figure out where the Vengestone was coming from, and how it was being transported without being detected. We thought about it for hours on end, repeating ideas and debunking them.
We were getting pretty tired, but we refused to give up.
"How could anyone be moving that much Vengestone across the city?" Cole wondered, still confused and baffled. "Not by air. It would be detected by local air traffic control." Zane told us, looking at a route on the TV. "What about underground?" I asked, but Lloyd shook his head. "I told you, the Serpentine say nothing's travelling through the unused subway tunnels. They'd know."
"But it's moving somehow. We're missing something. Let's start over with what we know." Cole was trying to get us to start over again, and it wasn't something we wanted. "Ugh, we've been at this for hours. We're just going in circles!" Kai huffed.
"Any ideas, Jay?" Lloyd asked, drawing our attention to Jay. We hadn't been paying too much attention to him, but we realised that he'd accumulated a bunch of glasses of water, and was staring into them. "Jay? We need you to focus up, buddy!" Cole smiled, trying to get him to responds, but he was too focused.
Kai huffed once more. "Ugh. JAY!"
He quickly shot up, looking over at us, clearly annoyed. "You don't have to yell. I'm right here." "Do you have any ideas about the Vengestone?" I asked him. "Who the buyer is? How they're moving it? Anything?" Cole continued. "No." Jay gave a blunt answer, and looked away again.
"We're gonna need a little more effort than that." Cole sighed, trying to edge him on, but then Jay stood up. "What's the point?" "Excuse me?" Lloyd questioned him, not expecting that response from him.
"Lloyd, you said Nya wouldn't want us to quit. That she'd kick our butts and tell us to get to work. And you're right. But you forgot something..." He started, soon looking at each of us. "We weren't truly a team until Nya joined. And whether we realized it or not, she was the glue that held us together."
"What do you mean?" I asked him, not understanding him. "I'm saying I don't think we can do this without her." Jay came forward with what was on his mind, and it threw Kai off the edge.
"You're acting like you're the only one who misses her. We all do. But at least the rest of us are trying to help instead of being mopey and useless!" Kai snapped, which quickly set Jay off too. "Hey! You came to me. I didn't ask to be here!" He shot back as both of them started giving each other death glares while inching closer.
I quickly walked over, and put myself between them to prevent them from fighting. "Come on! We don't have time for this." I sternly told them as I pushed them both away. "Aly's right, maybe we should take a break." Lloyd suggested, which only made matters worse. "What's a break gonna do? We know all there is to know!" Jay raised his voice again, and walked back to the table.
"The Vengestone would be spotted if it were being moved by air or through the known...tunnel system..." Jay seemed to get lost in thought after looking at a pizza box. But how on earth could pizza help us now?
"Jay? You got an idea?" Cole spoke up, but Jay was still thinking. "Or have you totally lost it?" Kai mumbled. I elbowed him, and he looked at me offended just as Jay came around again. "I...might have something." He announced, turning to the TV. "Zane, can you pull up a map of the subway tunnels below the city?"
Zane nodded, and pulled up a map. "I thought we knew the tunnels weren't being used." I said, bringing up a point. "Yes. But not all of the tunnels are active." Jay corrected me, soon walking off. "Come on, Kai, Lloyd."
