You're straightforward when it comes to liking guys, you think they're cute, you tell them. You do not dilly-dally and act shy. You and your sister have the same personalities but both of you are not cheap. You do not sleep around. Guys in your school knows that, which pushes them to keep on trying. Other girls hates you and your sister for that. You don't really care for as far as you know, it's not you having problems.
"So you like Yoongi huh?" Jay asks you in English. You almost forgot he's standing with you and your cousin. You turn to him, breaking your stare with Yoongi as you shrug.
"Yeah, I like what I see so far. Unless there's something about him I should know not to like about." You reply.
Jay glances at the stage and shakes his head. "Nah, there's nothing not to like about him. He works hard, very passionate about his craft, very talented. A lot of girls like him but like Elin said, he's quite aloof."
"Why would he be aloof?" You ask him out of curiosity.
"He's just like that, specially with girls." Jay said.
"But why? Is he not into girls?" You ask and he laughs at your statement.
"Nothing like that. He uh, chooses the girls he wants to be with." Jay didn't want to elaborate anymore so you didn't push him.
"Oh, ok. I think he's hot. You forgot to mention that when you described him." You said.
He laughs "That'll be a bit weird if I say that."
You realized that it would be weird so you join him laughing.
"You're pretty good in speaking in English."
"I was born and raised in Vancouver until we went back after I finished junior high." He replies.
"Really? Must've been tough to move at that age." You remark. You constantly ask your dad to take you and sister with him on the first year he came home to Seoul. He'd always answer that you'll have a hard time adjusting since you're not used to the culture there.
"It was, but that's when I met Namjoon and he kind of took me under his wings." He chuckled. "Namjoon is the other guy with them by the way. " He says.
You nod, yeah Mr. Dimples that's who he is. You watch the performance on stage. You try to comprehend the lyrics and although you catch a few, so far all you understood pretty well are the curse words.
After your mom passed away, your night was filled with these cursing. Your dad took your mom's death hard and had been drunk every night. You and your sister didn't even know what it meant until you googled it.
The performance ends after three more songs. Hoseok joins you giving Elin a tight hug first as he did.
"You were great as usual honey. All of you were." She tells Hosoek before turning to you. "Hobi, this is my cousin Y/N, she's the one I've been telling you about."
"Hello very pretty cousin." He replies in English with a wide smile at you.
You chuckle. "Thank you. I think you guys are awesome." You tell him returning his smile. It is so infectious, as you've thought earlier.
"Glad to hear you liked it." That's from Namjoon who exchanged hand clasp with Jay as he approached you.
"I'm Namjoon." He extends his hand. You extend your hand to shake it as you tell him your name. Not a lot of guys you've met in a club shakes your hand on your first meeting. Such a very gentleman thing to do.
"You guys have great talents. Ever considered going pro?" You ask.
Namjoon smiles. "Thank you. That's our dream but it's not as easy as it sounds."
"True but who knows right?" You tell him.
"Those words are so good to hear. You're very nice." Hoseok said. Your cousin must have told him you can understand Korean because he converses with you in the language.
"I try to be nice although I still need a lot of practice." You chuckle.
You look back at the stage and you scan the place looking for the other guy they were with earlier. The one you've locked eyes with, but he's no where around the club.
"Weren't there three of your earlier?" You ask your cousin's boyfriend. So far, he's one of the people who doesn't judge your accent when you speak.
"Yes, there's three of us. Yoongi might be chilling outside." He replies as he looks at the door behind the stage.
"Oh." You say as you nod. Inside your head, you're already planning to try find him outside. You're intrigued how can a guy create those feelings in you with just a look, you've never had that before. You want to know more about him.
So while your cousin gets busy with Hoseok, you decide to go find this mysterious guy Yoongi. You wonder if he'd be aloof with you just as your cousin and Jay had said.
You realized that 'outside' is quite broad, you should've asked for something more specific as you walk from the entrance of the place. There were guys hanging out by the doors and they glanced at you as you pass them. You try not to meet their eyes to avoid having to get into a conversation with them, that is not what you came out here for. You walk towards the side of the building, your heart picking up it's pace as you realize that what you're doing isn't safe at all. You almost retrace your steps back when you notice a figure sitting at the metal stairs down the corner of the place. The lights were a bit dim but you can see the clothes he's wearing. It's the same black hoodie and faded jeans. It is him, you realize as you walked closer. He is busy with his phone with one hand while the other one holds a bottled water which he lifts up to his lips. His face is illuminated by his phone and though your heart starts to beat faster than normal, you take a deep breath before speaking.
"Hi." You start with a bright smile. He gives you a brief glance then goes back to looking at his phone. Ok, so you can see this is what 'aloof' means. He didn't even bother to acknowledge your greeting.
"I'm Y/N, Elin's cousin." You introduce yourself in Korean. You see him smirk then shake his head after you speak. You can't help but scowl at that.
"Is there something funny with what I said?" You ask, you're trying your best to remain calm because you are doing your best for him to get impressed and it's causing your nerves to be in a great mess. You're standing two steps away from the landing where he sits, he didn't bother look at you when he answered.
"I don't understand how a Korean can not speak the language of their country."
You scowl at him. "My mom's American and I grew up in the States..." You begin to tell him but he cuts you off.
"But your last name is Park isn't it?" He asks you. You didn't tell him what your last name is but then of course he'll make that connection because of your cousin, Elin. "That means you just chose not to speak the language coz you prefer English over it." He says with a sarcastic chuckle.
" Well, English is the main language in America so I have to speak that. Besides, my dad didn't speak to us in Korean as much as he should've." You pause when you realize you're getting defensive already. You don't have to explain yourself to him at all as you realize he's displaying a behavior you don't like in a person at all, too judging. Since you're getting mixed up with your words as you speak to him, that made you more upset. This is not how you wanted to start your conversation with him. You only wanted to get to know him more, see how you get to feel the way you did earlier when you two were staring at each other. You thought there was a spark between the two of you. Right now, it's obviously gone as you feel your blood boil in anger.
"You know what, never mind, I do not have to defend myself with you. Obviously, you have judged me before even knowing me. I just thought I'd be able to have a decent conversation with you but obviously, I am so wrong. If you don't like me, you don't have to be a jerk you know." You said those words in English as you stomp your way down the stairs and headed back to where Elin is.
Patience is not your virtue.
