You look at the phone dreadfully as if it has turned into a snake. But your sister placed it in your hand, you have no choice but to clutch it before it drops to the floor. You looked at it and you see the number of seconds counting on the screen with Yoongi's name displayed. It's really not a joke, oh shit, you thought. You take a deep breath before lifting it to your ear.
"Hello?" There was a long silence in the other line before you hear his deep familiar voice, and your heart leaps in your chest.
"Hi." He says.
"Hi." You answer back. It feels as if you are talking with him for the first time ever again as your nerves start to create havoc inside you. This is the first time you're speaking with him since New York. It seems like ages ago.
"Y/N, I'm sorry to hear about your father." Yoongi tells you.
"Thank you." You reply glaring at your sister and your cousin who exits the room while giggling and exchanging high fives.
Another long silence before he continues. "I wanted to tell you personally, but I didn't get a chance. I was a bit late."
"Oh, that's ok. I know that you just got back so I'm sure you have too much on your hands." You reply. Even though you secretly wished he'd come when you saw Namjoon and Hoseok, you know it's not that easy for him. He just came back from a tour. He's tired and has a schedule to follow plus he'd like to be with his family too. You understand that he can't make it.
You didn't know what he meant by what he said was that he was actually there at your father's funeral, but he came in late. He saw how you were crying as your father was getting buried and that he wanted to hold you so bad because you looked so unhappy. The last time he saw you in New York, you had tears in your eyes too. Then he saw your fiancée doing what he can't do, as he holds you against him, his arms enveloping you to protect and ease you from your pain. Your hands were clutching onto him for support and you looked so helpless as you watched your father's casket being lowered to the ground. The scenario was too overwhelming for him which is why he had to leave. Not one saw him because he kept his distance from everyone else. He didn't even tell Namjoon or Hobi that he went after all. They gave him the details of the funeral because they were hoping you'd come with them. When he said he might not make it, they didn't push him any further.
"Actually," He clears his throat as he decided to tell you what he did anyway.
"I stopped by during the funeral briefly. I saw you but didn't get a chance to walk up to you. I left right away because I uh, had to be somewhere else."
Your mind just stopped functioning as you start to process what he just said. He saw you? He was there? You didn't see him of course because you were just so out of it. You are grateful that he went but you're wishing that the two of you could've gotten a chance to speak. Seeing him would somehow have eased your pain.
"Oh, uh, thank you for coming. It means a lot to me to know that you were there." You tell him exactly what's in your head.
"You're welcome." He answers but he didn't say anything else. You were waiting for him to speak again and when you realized that he isn't going to, you decided to end the awkward silence.
"I'm sorry if my sister interrupted you by calling. I know it's late and we shouldn't be bothering you since you might be resting. I just wanted to ask how you are."
"It's ok, it's just that I recently got back from the tour and the time adjustment is a bit hard. So, I try to sleep when my body tells me to." He answers. You can tell that he is drowsy, you know the sound of his voice when he is tired and ready to go to bed.
