That night, none of the four spoke. Red was too upset at himself and Aleya to explain it to Link, and Aleya was busy rocking herself on the floor to explain to Sidon what transpired up there.
They couldn't bring themselves to look at each other, like a wall sprung up whenever they tried to. Red thought that it might have to take a couple of weeks to try and patch up whatever they broke. Except to one, it was porcelain, and to the other, it was fresh glass. One wrong move and it all collapses.
"Aleya, come on, please- just give me a summary of what happened!" Sidon asked her for what seemed like the thousandth time that day. Aleya snaps her head around, standing in front of him with a glare that could shoot through him better than her rifle, and an aura so scary it could rival that of Calamity Ganon.
"Red and I fought about Cancer's death. That's it."
There was no energy in her voice, monotone and dead. Sidon wanted to just hold her and take care of her, shielding her from Red and what he did.
With Red and Link, however. Link asked once and waited until the other was ready.
"We fought about Cancer's death, I lost myself, and slapped her..." He trailed off. Link didn't know about Aleya's past encounters with having a hand raised at her, so he didn't think much of it. "I know you, she probably deserve-"
"Don't you dare say she deserved it." Red cut him off. "No matter what she did, she did not deserve to have my hand raised at her, let alone actively strike her."
Link looked at him, curious as to why he was adamant on not hurting her.
"Her parents, they... her father was extremely abusive towards her and her mum. Constantly hitting them or leaving Aleya specifically without food for days on end because she didn't do a tiny job right." Red began. "When I met her, I could see the malnourishment and bruises and promised her I would never hit her or harm her."
Hearing this, Link realised why Red seemed so upset about what he did. He'd feel like shit too.
"I don't know what to do, Link. I don't know how to explain to her that I didn't mean it because now her schizophrenia will most likely act up whenever she sees me and all she'll see is her father." He confessed. Link looked at him gingerly before giving him an idea.
"Take me with you, so she knows that it's you. Explain that what you did was a heat of the moment, and we'll all figure everything out. Sidon won't look like he wants to kill you and me, and Aleya'll be able to look you in the eyes again!"
Red couldn't help but smile at Link's positivity, though he was being naïve, he thought that it might actually work.
~~~Time skip because awkward silence~~~
They saw Aleya and Sidon underneath the Domain, Aleya's toes just touching the surface of the water as Sidon was almost fully submerged. Heading down the ladder, Red saw Aleya's ears wiggle to his direction, obviously trying to pinpoint who it was and where they were. "Aleya?" He called out, as he stepped onto the damp rocks, Link coming down the ladder shortly after.
He heard a quiet whisper of "Please, just go away.." escape her lips as Sidon glared down at him. "No. We need to talk. I have Link here so you know it's me and not him." He explained. Sidon, still glaring at him, shook his head. "She's not in the right frame of mind to deal with you right now." He spat, climbing out of the water as he stood in front of Aleya. The girl didn't want to hear it, so she put her hand on his calf to garner his attention. As he looked back at her, he heard her speak after around three days.
"Let him speak. I want to see what he has in mind to try and fix this. I don't want to depend on my medication whenever I see him." She whispered. Sidon, after not hearing her voice for ages, caved in quickly, setting himself down beside her as Red made his way towards her, Link still behind him. Red crouched down to her eye level as he began to explain.
