Red huffed as he stared at Link who only smiled at him, "I warned you I wouldn't go so easy this time." he said as he leaned on his sword, "You can't improve without a challenge after all."
"Can't you just please go a little easier on me, please?" Red asked as he dusted himself off, the number of times he had been knocked down by Link was just frustrating at this point. "I'm sorry darling... but if I go any easier..."
"Link..." Red whined, burying his face in his hands, "I'm not learning for shit. We spar and I almost instantly get knocked down. What is that teaching me?" he asked.
Link was silent for a moment, "Okay... fine, maybe I am being a bit too hard... especially to get you swearing..." Link chuckled "Seriously though, I'm sorry..."
Red shook his head, finally getting himself up off the ground and walking towards Link who stood up properly. In a sudden burst of confidence, Red grabbed Link, the blond's eyes widening as Red dipped him down before smiling, "Got you..."
He gently kissed him before dropping him to the ground. "Hey!" Link yelled, playfully glaring up at Red who giggled, "Revenge."
"Double revenge!" Link yelled in response as he leapt at Red and pulled him down, Red letting out a big screech.
The two boys ended up wrestling on the ground, laughing as they both attempted to pin each other, Red rolling out of the way each time Link tried, while Link managed to push Red off each time he nearly won. "Give up! You know I'll win!" Link shouted.
"Don't get so cocky!" Red shouted back before pinning Link again and promptly being pushed again.
Link smirked at him before grabbing his hood, stopping him from being able to slip away once again as he finally pinned him down by the wrists. Red struggled a bit before letting out a huff as he gave up "Fine... you win..." Red mumbled.
Link grinned at him before leaning down and resting a kiss on his forehead "I told ya~ and now I get to... hm... what do you think my reward should be?"
Red raised an eyebrow before smiling "Maybe your reward should be me cooking you whatever you want."
"I- fine... but only because you're cooking is so good." Link smiled as he sat up, letting Red sit up himself. Red looked at the sky for a moment before sighing.
"We have to go soon..."
Link gave him a sympathetic smile, patting his back, "Hey... I promise I won't let us take as long as last time..." Red looked at him and then at the sky again, "I hope you're right... I don't want Aleya to miss my birthday..." he chuckled.
Link's eyes instantly lit up "When is it? Your birthday I mean?"
"10th of February, why?"
Link only smiled, standing up, "That's in about... 4 months... plenty of time to prepare something amazing for you." he said before he started to walk away.
Red instantly scrambled to his feet, sheathing his Edge of Duality before running to catch up to Link, "You really don't need to though, you can just get me something small!" Red argued. Link shook his head "Red, it's going to be your 19th, correct?"
"Yeah but-"
"It's going to be perfect for you then, okay?"
Red glared at him as he started going up the ladder to the Domain, "At least tell me your birthday!" Link stopped and looked down at him for a moment "Uhh... Impa said November 9th..." he stopped to think again "So... in about 3 weeks..."
Red grit his teeth as he started to climb the ladder, he knew for a fact he wouldn't be able to give Link as great of a birthday as he wanted. He thought about what to do before an idea popped up in his head, he smiled to himself knowing that making Link's birthday just a day where they do all the things Link enjoys would be perfect. "Your birthday will be better than mine, I swear on it." Red told Link as he finished climbing.
Link rose an eyebrow, "Sure it will..." he chuckled. Red didn't bother to argue, instead just following Link as they made their way to their room.
*TIME SKIP TIME*
Red smiled at Myra as she slept, wrapped up in a soft blanket gifted to her by her grandfather. "I'm going to miss you, Myra, even if you may not know it." he muttered.
Aleya walked up behind him, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder, "She's going to miss you too Red." She chuckled "I can tell she adores you nearly as much as she adores me and her father."
Red smiled sadly before looking at Myra again, "I honestly don't feel like I deserve it... seeing as how..." he let out a sigh, "How I-"
"It's fine. I know you wouldn't do that again, Red."
Red looked at Aleya with doubt in his eyes, he in truth always told himself that if someone is willing to hit or harm you intentionally, they'll do it again. While he didn't intend to hit her or even rise a hand at her, he did it thoughtlessly, which meant that he could do it either way in his mind, while he was happy to have Aleya at least semi-forgive him, he could never forgive himself.
Aleya gently smiled at him "Trust me, you won't." She elbowed him gently, Red unable to hide the small smile that emerged on his face. "Now, come on, you have to save Hyrule for me, your niece and her father, okay?" Red nodded, "Right."
Aleya took his wrist in her hand and brought him out of the room and towards Link and Sidon who were chatting about something about Link's house, though most of the conversation was unclear to the two. Link's eyes lit up as he saw the two, grinning at them, Sidon noticed and turned to them, his expression turning almost the same.
Link took his boyfriend's hand in his "You ready?" he asked in a mere whisper, Red smiled nervously "As ready as I possibly could be, Link." Link gently nodded, planting a chaste kiss on his cheek before turning back to Sidon and Aleya.
"You guys will be okay, right?" Sidon asked, Red could tell by the expression on his face that he has a bad feeling about the journey they would be taking, a small reminder of Link's fate in the timeline that they are trying to prevent, a small reminder that he could lose him. "Yeah, we'll be fine Sidon." Link said in optimism that Red wished he had.
Aleya smiled at them before pulling the two of them in a hug, though worry filled her with Red's melancholy expression, she didn't want to pry but she could tell whatever was on his mind was something awful, she had only seen the expression on his face a few times, all those times something awful had or was going to happen. "Stay safe you two." was all she managed to say as she pulled away.
"Yeah, yeah we will." Red's voice was almost a whisper, as he averted his eyes. He felt a pat on his back from Link who gave him a reassuring smile, he smiled back trying to think on the bright side, trying to think about maybe he would intervene with Link's hopefully former fate. "We'll see you guys soon, hopefully." Red told the Zora and his best friend, who smiled.
They each said their goodbyes before the boys went on their way, holding hands. Link's grip tightened as they got off the bridge. "You're not... exactly happy right now... are you?" Link asked, making Red almost freeze in his tracks. His silence confirming Link's suspicions, "It's me... what could happen to me, isn't it?"
Red didn't reply for a moment before finally speaking, "I might lose you..." he mumbled.
Link looked at him before pulling him into a tight hug, "I know how you feel..." he said quietly, "I'm scared too, I'm scared of what it'll be like... what will happen to you... what will happen to everyone in Hyrule." he pulled away and looked into Red's eyes "But, I want you to promise that you'll watch out for yourself first, okay? It'd hurt me more if you died in my place..."
Red frowned, "I can't promise that Link, you know that."
Link's eyes softened in understanding before he is pulling Red into a tight hug again, this time brushing his fingers through his hair, "I..." he went to say before just closing his mouth, and just being silent, not pulling away until Red started to.
Link gave him a sad smile, before taking his hand again "Let's go get Hades and Paralysis, I'm sure they miss us." he chuckled in an attempt to lighten the mood at least a little. Red nodded as he smiled back, "We'll have to give them tons of apples." he mentioned, Link nodding in agreement.
Link wrapped an arm around Red's shoulders before pulling out his Shiekah slate, "Would you like to walk or just teleport?" he asked gently. "Let's just teleport."
Link smiled at him before pressing on the shrine next to the stable.
