** Ian's POV **

*door bell rings*

"Who could this be?" I thought to myself.

Without even looking through the peephole, I twisted the door knob and opened the door.

"Ian?" The voice said.

I rubbed my eyes and looked into the woman's face. I almost jumped back when I noticed who was standing in front of me.

"Baby I am so happy to see you. Can I come inside please?" She asked.

It was my mother. I haven't seen her in about three weeks and here she is at my doorstep. I was excited but confused at the same time. She seemed unusually uptight.

"Yeah, come in mom. Take a seat, relax." I said as I motioned for her to sit down.

"Well, umm, actually I don't have that much time. But, before you drown me with questions I just need to say this." She paused.

"Happy Birthday and I love you. Your father and I are going through some things to make sure that you and Riley have a great future. The bad news is that we are in some deep shit. Marley's mom and step-father is tied into this too. I came here to tell you that y'all have to leave here now." She explained.

I held my hand up to stop her. "Mom I'm confused. Tell me what's exactly going on. Dad called me yesterday and said he'll be back soon. So why leave?" I asked.

Tears began falling out of her eyes as my mom began speaking. "Me and your dad have been running this city for a long time baby. Just like anyone else in this business you can never be too safe and we got caught slipping. We let a snake into our comfort zone and now he's making us pay the price. I'm telling you this because the guy is sitting right outside. I would never bring this type of danger near my children but I was forced to come here. Baby I'm sorry for all of this and please be strong for Riley. I love y'all and remember that I'll always be here."

I've been trying to hold in my emotions for a while now but every man has to cry at some point. The warm tears began streaming down my face as my mom began walking towards me.

I opened my arms to hug her.

* BOOM BOOM BOOM *

I shuttered as glass began breaking all around the kitchen. Three bullets flew through my mother as she fell into my arms.

I heard tires screeching in the distance as a black suburban sped off.

"SOMEBODY HELP ME PLEASE." I cried out. Nobody replied.

I sat on the floor holding my mother's head while rocking her.

"Mom, you can't leave us! Hang in there for me. Momma please!" I cried while talking to her.

"D-d-d-daniel Hunt." She muttered softly. As she leaned her head back.

"T-t-tell my baby girl I love her son. I love you too. And I'm sorry baby. I'm so sorry." She said as she began crying while coughing up blood. Her breathing grew shallower every time she inhaled. She began loosing conscientiousness as her eyes began closing.

"MAAAA! MOMMA WAKE UP! YOU HAVE TO GET UP! PLEASE!" I pleaded as her chest rose for the last time.

I kissed her on her forehead as I closed my eyes an began praying for God to bring my mom back. I just sat on the floor and went into a very dark place. At that moment my body grew very cold. I stared into the distance as I cradled my mother's limp body into my arms.
