Chapter Fifty One

College had been in for a month and a half and I was exhausted already from all of the early mornings and days full of lectures. I had just left the library after my free period and my plan was to head to the dorms Jen was living in to give her her present. It was her 19th birthday and the plan was a pool party at our place tonight to celebrate. Dad was away with Carol and the kids at her parents and wouldn't be back until after the Thanksgiving break, which gave us free reign of the house for over a week, making it the perfect place for a party. I went to press the buzzer on the door outside of Jen's to be let into the building but someone came out, holding the door for me to go in "Thanks so much" I told him as I stepped inside and started jogging up to the fourth floor. I knocked on her door "Jen it's me!" I called as I twisted the handle. She never ever locked her door which I always lectured her about. I stepped inside to see Jenifer on top of someone "Oh shit.. I'm sor-" I froze when I realised who she was on top of "Kat.. I wasn't expecting you" her face, smug. My heart was in my throat, or was it bile. I couldn't tell. Billy was frozen in place underneath her as she pulled her shirt on, he was staring at me shocked. I looked away from him, leaving the room. I needed to get as far away as possible... Where I was walking I don't know. Billy was suddenly In front of me "Kat? Kat? Listen to me. It's not what you think!" I stared through him "Fuck off" I told him shoving him out of my way "Kat come on you can't be serious. We need to talk about what you saw back there" I turned back to him shoving Jen's present into his chest. He didn't take it and it dropped to the floor. He took my hand in his "Let go of me. Don't touch me" Billy was strong, I couldn't get out of his grip "Please. Please just let me go" he stared at me, I blinked away, crying. I couldn't look him in the eye "I'm going to puke Billy. Please just let me be on my own" he finally loosened his grip and I ran around a corner and vomited into a hedge "Kat babe, are you alright?" Billy had followed me and was touching my back gently, comfortingly. I wiped my mouth "Let's go get you some water" I stood up and pushed by him "Do you not understand or something? I told you to fuck off!" I walked away and saw Jen stood there. I froze, staring at her before rage took over. My body was vibrating as I stormed over to her, my hand colliding with her cheek. She gasped "You fucking bitch.... How dare you!" I shouted "After everything I've done for you... You go and betray me like this? You know how much Billy means to me. But you can't help yourself can you Jennifer" I took a breath, not caring that I was now sobbing "Honestly. I hope you're having a great Birthday" I felt Billy behind me and I turned to him "I did everything I could for you. And this is how you repay me. By cheating on me with my best friend?" I shook my head "You two fucking deserve each other" I stormed off back towards college "And don't bother stepping foot inside my Dad's house. Tonight or ever again" I said turning back to look at them both one last time.

Back at Dad's I was glad to be home alone. I charged through the front door and went into the kitchen to grab a drink. Not realising Joe was in there arranging drinks on the counter, probably for Jen's birthday party. I turned away and headed through the living room and to the foyer to head upstairs to my bedroom "Kat? You alright?" Joe called. I ignored him and carried on up the stairs "Hey kat?" He jogged up to me and turned me to face him "What happened?" I broke down into floods of tears again "hey, hey. Don't do this to me" I collapsed on the stairs, hugging my knees. Joe sat beside me and pulled me against him not saying anything, just holding me whilst I let it all out.
