Chapter Fifteen

I'd ended up sitting at a table at the back of the library. If anyone was looking for me right now they most definitely wouldn't expect to find me here. When lunch rolled around I stayed put waiting for Billy to show because we were actually planning on meeting here anyway "I didn't think you'd still be here" he spoke as he sat beside me
"Who would think to look for me here though?"
"Steve's looking for you" I licked over my lips

"Good. Let him... I spoke to Nancy earlier. I believe you" I told him

"Why wouldn't you believe me, you saw it for yourself. What did Nancy tell you?"
"That it was Stacey's idea for Steve to pretend to like me as more than just a friend just so they could keep me away from you" Billy scooted closer to me
"Well. It was working out pretty well for them up until now" I swallowed as he lent in to kiss me. I placed my hand on his chest to push him away "That doesn't mean to say they aren't right" I spoke. "I get that you're still mad" he told me "I'll do whatever it takes for me to gain your trust again" I bit my lip "Plus I think we need to talk. I want to know what happened when you found your Dad" I smiled at him I was a little bit shocked that he was being so understanding.
"Are you in a lot of trouble?" I asked him

"You could say that" the bell sounded, ending lunch and I stood up
"I'll be at the game tonight" I told him as I threw my bag over my shoulder "We can meet after if you want?" I asked him

"Meet me at my Car after the game?"
"I'll see you there"

My next lesson was Chemistry and I was yet to see who I shared this class with. I spotted Jennifer who smiled at me as I entered. I walked over to the bench and sat on the stool beside her "Where have you been all day?" she asked me

"Around" I told her. She threw her dark hair over her shoulders as the teacher told us to settle down "Today we will be doing a practical. You'll be working in pairs" I worked with Jennifer and as we messed around setting fire to bits of paper with the bunson burner I wondered if she was in on this whole Steve pretending to like me thing "So are you in on it?" I asked her and she pulled her protective goggles up on her head "In on what?" she asked

"Stacey and Steve's master plan on keeping me away from Billy?" she narrowed her eyes

"What do you mean?" she sat down on a stool
"Steve and Nancy are still together" she let out a laugh which made our teacher and classmates look round at us "Sorry" Jennifer whispered before turning back to me "I don't get it? Is it some kind open relationship?" I shook my head
"No.. I spoke to Billy and he had proof of them together" I told her before telling her what Nancy had told me earlier "I can't believe Stacey would do something like that" she looked mad
"I totally understand that they want to protect you but that's awful" she stood up "Let's confront them" I shook my head
"No, not yet. I'm waiting" She narrowed her eyes at me

"So what? You're just going to act like a couple with Steve?" I shrugged
"I think he already knows I'm onto him. Plus Billy knows so he's more than likely taunting him" Jennifer smiled "I thought Billy was the worst kind of human after he beat Steve up but now I'm thinking he probably had a good reason" I smirked
"He really did help me though Jen" she put her goggles back on
"I know he did.. Maybe he's not really the monster in this anymore" she told me before grabbing her bag "Here" she pulled out a ticket for the game tonight "I managed to wrangle one, you don't owe me anything... Except maybe letting me plan Steve Harrington's demise" I smiled
"I'm sure we can arrange something"

As soon as the bell rang ending class I followed Jennifer out to meet Stacey who was waiting for us "Hey! Where have you been today Kat? Did Steve find you. He said that you stormed out of third period?" I rolled my eyes as Jennifer smiled. she'd agreed not to lose her shit with Stacey at least until after the game tonight. It was strange to me that Jennifer was taking my side over Stacey's when we'd had a lot of issues in the past and she was after all closer to Stacey "Where is he?" I asked her
"Oh, he said he'd see us at the game, he had to go do something for his Dad" Jennifer gave me a look and I widened my eyes to tell her to keep it shut "So are we going or what?" Jennifer asked opening her Car door and getting into the driving seat. Stacey sighed and we both climbed in.

 The Diner in town was rammed so we got take out. I sipped on my milkshake as we sat on the hood of Jennifer's Concord "So is this your first ever game?" she asked me
"Yeah. I mean I've obviously seen you guys cheer loads of times but it's never really appealed to me" I replied
"Well now you've got lover boy to cheer on" Jennifer stated with a smirk on her face
"Shut up" I nudged her with my elbow. Stacey was sipping her milkshake looking out over the parking lot and not paying attention to the conversation.

After we'd finished our food we drove back to the school and I sat on the back row of the bleachers whilst I watched the cheer squad rehearse. I watched Stacey as the squad did there routine and I remembered her very non caring response when me and Steve told her we were dating. The way she just kind of brushed it off and changed the conversation like she already knew. If I'd just found out that two of my best friends were dating I'd be a little more interested. Soon I was left to sit and wait on my own, the bleachers soon started to fill up and I spotted Nancy walk in. Her hair tied back into a ponytail. She scanned the bleachers before taking a seat on the front row. At Seven on the dot the cheerleaders came back out and I had to watch the same routine for the third time today before finally the two basketball teams came out. I didn't really know what was happening. I'd never even watched a basketball game on the television. But there was a lot of shouting. I was only really watching Steve to see if he looked at either me or Nancy. He smiled at Nancy on the front row just as one of his teammates threw the ball at him. "Hey Harrington!" Billy shouted over "Concentrate on the game and I'm not talking about the one you're playing with Kat" I parted my lips at Billy's statement and then locked eyes with Steve. I smiled weakly at him.

Billy's POV

"Well done boys!" Josh shouted as we piled into the changing rooms. I stood at the lockers and looked across at Steve who wasn't looking as pleased as everyone else currently was "Whats up with you Harrington?" he looked back at me as he pulled his clothes out of the locker but didn't say anything "Kat knows what you've been up to" he narrowed his eyes at me
"I don't know what you're talking about" I shook my head at him asI pulled my tee over my head "Oh I think you do" Steve licked over his lips before slamming the locker door shut
"Just stay away from her ok?" I smirked as I squared up to him
"Sorry Harrington. I'm afraid I can't do that"
"I think it's in both of your best interest" he replied not backing down "I'm protecting her" I laughed at the statement "Protecting her?" I questioned " The only thing you're doing right now is hurting her" I shoved him
"Come on guys really?" Josh asked standing between us "We just beat those fuckers. Why are we turning on each other?" he asked looking from me back to Steve. Steve shook his head and moved to the other side of the locker room. I quickly got changed "So. After party at my place to celebrate" Josh announced as I grabbed my gym bag, placing it over my shoulder
"See you there" I told him before heading out to find Kat.
