Chapter Thirty Two

As soon as I stepped through the front door Penny was in the hallway "Detention? Again Katrina?" I sighed
"I'm sorry, I just couldn't face last period, my chest was hurting" Penny shook her head as Stacey and Jennifer walked down the stairs "Hello you" Stacey greeted with a look on her face that I didn't want to know the reason behind. Jennifer jumped off of the bottom step and came over to stand in front of me "Johnathan Byers?!" she shouted
"Oh no, who told you?"
"Nancy... I know I can't stand the girl but I was in the Bathrooms during fifth and she came in upset and I was pretending to be nice by offering her a tissue and she just started spilling out about it. I've got to say I was impressed by how cruel you really can be Kat" I tilted my head
"So it bothered her?" Jen's smirk turned into a full on grin
"Oh my god. You did plan this?" she stated "You bitch" she joked
"Wait, wait I'm lost?" Stacey questioned
"Will you Girls stop gossiping in the hallway and come and eat" Penny called from the Kitchen
"You're here for Dinner?" I asked Jenn
"Yeah, you can tell me all about this scheme afterwards" I shook my head at Jennifer as we walked into the Kitchen where we sat down to eat whatever Penny had cooked tonight. The whole time Jennifer was giving me this look across the table that was completely putting me off of eating "Stacey's room, now!" Jennifer demanded as soon as I'd taken my last mouthful of veg. we headed upstairs and I started to tell them both the story of how I'd been round to see Joyce and me and Johnathan got on pretty well and how he was in love with Nancy and I was helping him win her back "But Nancy is with Steve" I shrugged
"I'd be doing him a favour. Nancy waited for Johnathan after detention and they went off to talk so it worked" Stacey folded her arms across her chest
"That's not fair... You're going to hurt Steve" I smiled

"Oh right, so its ok for him to do it to me? Karma's a bitch Stacey" Jenn nudged her
"You really are going soft... You used to hate Nancy"
"I'm just you know? Focusing on school more. I want to go to college you know?" Jennifer's eyes lit up "That reminds me... I've decided where I want to go to college to do Business studies" I let out a laugh "Business studies? You?" she glared at me

"Unless you want me to break your ribs again I suggest you shut it" I bit my lip "California" I widened my eyes "So you won't be moving to Cali alone after all Kat" I grinned and hugged her "Wait, hold on...Kat I didn't think you'd decided what you were doing yet" Stacey questioned
"Well... I mean what you said the other day about us all moving away to college anyway. You were right"
"And your Mom?" I sighed
"She's still in rehab and anyway college is important I'm sure she'd understand" Stacey just shrugged and I turned to look at her "You should apply for the same college as us?" she shook her head "Actually I've already applied to a couple in New York and one on Pennsylvania" me and Jenn looked at each other "New York?" I questioned"

Yeah, I want to study History and those three I applied to are the best in the country" Jenn smiled "That's amazing Stace!" she announced going to hug her

Jennifer's POV

I hung out with Stacey and Kat for a few more hours before leaving at around eleven thirty. I walked down the driveway to my Car and unlocked it. Just as I opened the door to get in I spotted Billy across the street. He was on crutches I narrowed my eyes at him as he made his way across the road to me "Hargrove what do I owe the pleasure"
"Is Kat in?" he asked
"She is"
"Can you get me inside?" I shook my head at him
"They just went to bed" I told him and he looked disappointed "Look, why don't you come to School tomorrow evening? I'll make her skip a period so that she has detention and I'll drive you over there to meet her" he didn't look pleased with the suggestion but agreed to it anyway
"Fine.. Drive to mine at four on the dot I'll be ready" he adjusted his crutches and headed across the road again "Wait, do you want a lift?" I asked him. He came back over
"Thanks" It was quiet as we drove towards Billy's house and I decided I wanted answers
"Why are you leaving?" I asked straight up
"Because I have no other choice"
"You've never cared about anything Hargrove and that's why I'm finding it difficult to understand... You love her. I know you do"

"Of course I fucking love her.. That's why I'm doing this"
"By hurting her?" I quizzed him

"I don't have to explain myself to you" he snapped at me
"See there's the Billy I know" I spoke. I pulled up outside of his house and turned to him "Fight for her Billy. I don't care if you two are going separate ways at the end of the school year. That's still not until the Summer " I watched him get out of the Car and make his way up to his front door. I rolled the window down"You'd better not disappoint me Hargrove" I called out to him and he flipped me the bird before going into his house.

Kats POV

At school the next day we were sat outside by the bench when I saw Johnathan pull into the Car park with his Brother. I headed over to him "So, come on what did she say?" I asked him
"She told me she was worried about me" I smiled "She told me that you were bad news" I nodded "I went with our plan, said we were seeing each other... She started getting really upset and I asked her why she cared so much about who I was seeing and it all came out" he smiled and I hugged him "That's great.. So her and Steve?" Johnathan sighed
"She wants to wait"

"Ok, well.. Just let me know what happens" I smiled at him and then went to leave
"Kat, thanks" I turned to him "Maybe you're not so evil after all" I rolled my eyes
"Watch it" I warned him before heading back over to the bench.

"So, what did he tell you?" Jennifer asked excitedly
"He said she admitted she liked him.. I don't know the full details only that she hasn't broken it off with Steve yet" Jennifer smiled
"Great, that's even better"
"How so?" I enquired
"Because I can tease them both about it" I looked over at them, Steve and Nancy were both here and Nancy looked uncomfortable. The bell rang for the start of the day "Oh, before you head to class I need you to skip a period or two" I knotted my eyebrows together "Just trust me, I'll meet you out here after detention" I watched her walk away, slipping her hand into Jason's as they headed towards the school building. I was intrigued though, of course so I skipped first period.

The school day went pretty quickly and so far Jennifer had done pretty well at not telling Steve that his Girlfriend was actually in love with someone else. After fifth period she appeared at my locker "I'm escorting you to detention" she told me firmly as I closed my locker door after depositing my books "Why?"

"Because if you don't go to detention you'll ruin the surprise" I sighed as we walked together to detention. At the door to the room she turned tome "I guess I'll see you in an hour then"
"I'll be in my Car out front. Be quick" I watched her walk away, turning to look at me before she turned the corner. I shook my head at her and then headed into detention.
