Four Letter Word..

Chapter Thirty One

Jason had driven us to the diner where we met up with Josh, Steve and Nancy. I greeted Josh with a hug but I didn't say a word to either of the other two. I sat beside Jennifer at the table and Josh sat on my other side "We were all so worried about you babe" he told me. I just nodded and stirred my milkshake. I looked across the table at Nancy who was giving me a really dirty look, she looked away when I made eye contact and started talking to Steve and Stacey. I kept on staring at her for the remainder of the meal, making damn sure I was intimidating her.

After eating we had decided to head to the Arcade so were all outside deciding who was going to ride with who. Nancy was giving me a look again so I confronted her now that we were outside "What's your problem?" I asked shoving her.
"What? Nothing Kat" I narrowed my eyes
"Don't give me that shit Nancy? You've been staring at me like that for the entire afternoon" she looked upset all of a sudden and then Steve stepped in between us "Hey! Stop it" he towered over me "Stay out of this Steve" I demanded

"Stop taking your problems out on everyone else" he shouted "You're just angry because your dick of a Boyfriend dumped your ass and everyone else has been proved right" I parted my lips "Who told you?" I quizzed him
"Sorry Kat, it may have slipped out in conversation" Jennifer stepped forward sightly. I turned away from her. Before charging back into the Diner and into the toilets. I locked myself in a cubicle and sat down on the seat of the loo "Kat?"I heard Steve call

"Go away!" I called back out to him, what was he even doing in the Girls Bathrooms
"Please just, come out? Everyone's waiting for you" I stood up and kicked the door open making it crash against the cubicle wall. Steve was looking at me as I went over to the mirrors to wipe the mascara from under my eyes. He was just watching me from the doorway. Once I was satisfied I went to leave but Steve stepped in front of me "Let's talk" I shook my head
"I don't want to talk to you or your precious Girlfriend" he grabbed my arm lightly
"Katrina..." I looked up at him
"He left me Steve..." I started to sob again and I couldn't believe I was doing it in front of Steve. "Hey, hey.." he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into him and I let him. We stayed in the doorway like that until someone walked in and we had to move "Let's go" I spoke wiping my eyes again and walking by him "Hey... Wait. Kat" he pulled me back towards him "I can take you home if you want?" I narrowed my eyes at him

"No.. I'm here with my friends. This doesn't mean you're forgiven" I told him before shrugging him off again and walking outside smiling at my friends.

My first day back to School since the accident was just as bad as I thought it would be and I couldn't concentrate in any of my lessons because I couldn't get my stupid brain to focus on anything but Billy Hargrove. So, at lunch time I didn't head to our usual meeting place at the bench out front. I headed towards the Car lot where I found Johnathan Byers, eating his paper bag lunch on his own in his Car. I stood in front of the Ford LTD and he tilted his head at me from behind the window. I walked around to the passenger side door and opened it up. I slipped inside and placed my bag and ringbinder into the foot well before closing the door "Hi" I turned to him "What you got in your sandwiches?" I teased he looked down at the paper bag in his lap "Bologna" I smiled

"Ew" he looked across at me "Do you actually like Bologna?"
"I hate it but, I don't have the heart to tell Mom" I smiled

"So, let's go to the diner?" he narrowed his eyes

"The diner? You mean skip school?" I rolled my eyes
"You need to live a little Byers" I told him as I lent across and started the ignition to the Car. I took the paper bag from his lap and rolled down the window dropping it out. "Whoops..." I rolled the window up "You want a Burger or not? I'm paying" I told him he looked out of the front window "Fine" I smirked as he put the Car into gear and drove us out of the lot.

The drive to the Diner was pretty quiet and when we both got out of the Car I noticed the camera in his back seats "Your cameras cool" he looked through the window at it

"Thanks, Nancy bought it for me last Christmas. You hang out with her right?" I rolled my eyes as he reached into the Car to pick it up "Not by choice" I answered
"Steve broke my old one"

"Why would he do that?" I asked

"It doesn't really matter" He started walking towards the Diner and I followed him in
"So how long have you been taking photos?" I questioned him as I picked up my sandwich and took a bite "A few years"
"So is that what you want to do when you leave school? photography?"
"I don't know, Its just a hobby, distracts me from the real world for a bit" I nodded
"I think I need a hobby" I told him leaning back in the seat "you know to distract me from Hargrove" he smiled as he looked at his watch
"We should go or we're going to be late for fifth" I smirked at him
"Jesus Johnathan, live a little" he looked tense "It's one class, I promise it'll be fine" I finished the last bite of my sandwich "So why did Steve's girlfriend buy you a camera?"

"It was a Christmas gift... Like I said Steve broke mine" I tilted my head "You like Nancy" his head shot up and he started trying to deny it but it was obvious. Everyone already knew it. "We're just friends" he tried to assure me but he knew I'd never buy that "We should go" he stood up and started walking away. I followed him out and to his car "She's probably in love with you to" I told Johnathan as he started the Car to take us back to school "She's with Steve" I shook my head
"That doesn't mean you can't still be in love with her" I told him "I can't be with Billy but that doesn't mean I can just stop loving him" he didn't look my way when he replied
"That's different Kat" I sighed as he pulled up in the school parking lot
"I don't know why you've bothered bringing us back here... We've already missed most of this period" he ignored me as he pulled his bag out of the backseat and slung it over his shoulder. I closed the car door "Hey? What did I say to upset you?" I called to him but he ignored me. I chased after him "I'm sorry" I stated as I stood in front of him to stop him walking. When he stopped I noticed none other than Nancy over by the car park, she was watching us "I can help you with the Nancy situation" he knotted his eyebrows together in confusion "Please, don't think I'm being weird right now but I promise you if Nancy has any kind of feelings for you, this will work" I took a breath and wrapped my arms around his waist "I need you to kiss me" he gave me an odd look "Please trust me Johnathan" I lent up slightly so that our eyes were level and he looked down at my lips before he went in for the kill. I parted my lips allowing him to kiss me deeper and his hands automatically wrapped around me. I opened my eyes just to see if Nancy was watching and I was glad to see that she was. When Johnathan pulled away I smiled at him "You're not a bad kisser" I winked and turned away
"Hold on Kat.." he called, I turned back to him "Why did you do that?" I walked back over to him "Nancy saw us... She was in the lot" he turned to the lot but Nancy was long gone "I'll see you later" I told him "Let me know what she says when she confronts you"

I had detention for missing fifth period and so did Johnathan which the regulars were all shocked about "Hey" he sat down at the desk next to me "Sorry for getting you into trouble, I can lie to your Mom for you if you want? Tell her it's my fault" he smiled at me
"I'm sure she'll let me off, it is only my first offence after all" I smiled back at him before the heads assistant told us to shush. After detention me and Johnathan left together and he had originally offered me a ride home but as we stepped up to the Car Nancy appeared "You had detention?" she asked him
"yeah" he answered her "What's up?
"I just, I wanted to talk to you.." Johnathan looked back at me

"It's fine... You guys talk, I'll see you later though yeah?" I questioned Johnathan as I stepped closer to him and wrapped my arms around his neck. I winked at him before whispering into his ear "let me know what happens" into his ear. I pressed my lips to his just to make the scene look even more realistic and then I left walking in the opposite direction. It wasn't cold today so walking back to Penny's wouldn't be so bad.
