Chapter Twenty One

Me and Stacey waited at the end of the street for Billy to pick us up. She was smoking a cigarette, her arms folded across her chest "You really don't like this do you?" I asked her "Just tell me why you don't like Billy?" she took a long drag of her cigarette before dropping it to the concrete and stamping it out "Are you ready for this list?" I smirked "He beat Steve up, he cheated on you with Jennifer at one point, he took you to California without telling us anything, he ditched you in a state you've never even been to" she paused and I waited for her to carry on "I mean, there's other things" I nodded
"He beat Steve up because he lied to him about where Billy's Sister was. He was only using Jennifer to make me jealous. And yeah, he did ditch me in California you're right. But I wanted to be there, I wanted to find my Dad and I did" she licked over her lips and I stepped closer to her "I just need you to understand that I love him Stacey and I thought as my best friend you'd support me and be happy for me" she nodded as Billy's Camaro pulled up beside us
"I'll try Kat" I smiled at her and wrapped my arms around her, she hugged me back and I heard her laugh slightly "I missed you" I smiled
"I missed you as well you cow" she squeezed me tighter
"Jesus, get a room" I heard Billy call over to us from the Car. Stacey let go of me and I opened the passenger seat door letting her get into the back seats before I got in beside Billy. I lent over and kissed him "Hey gorgeous" he greeted me. He put the Car into drive and pulled back out onto the street "How you doing Stacey?" Billy asked her, looking in the rear view mirror
"I'm fine, how are you?"
"I'm good" It fell silent again
"Direct me, I don't know where I'm going" Billy stated looking across at me briefly.

We pulled into a parking space "Damn I don't know if I can do this Kat" Billy stated as he turned the engine off "What do you mean?" I asked him
"Meeting your Mom" I smiled weakly "What if she goes psycho on my ass? She knows who I am right?" I rolled my eyes
"She's not in here because she's a psycho Billy, she's an alcoholic..."
"Was" Stacey corrected, I'd almost forgotten she was here she'd been so quiet. I took his hand "We've got to start somewhere" I told him and he looked across at me. He turned away and opened the door getting out. I turned to look at Stacey before getting out myself. We all walked into the facility and the receptionist recognised me straight away "Hi Kat are you here to see your Mom?" I smiled at her as she grabbed the sign in sheet and handed it to me "Where's Steve today?" I licked over my lips as I signed the three of us in
"Steve won't be coming anymore" I told her
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that" she stated. I looked up at Billy who looked tense. I wasn't sure whether it was because he was about to come face to face with my Mother or at the mention of Steve being here. "Ok well, I'll take you all down" she stepped around the desk and we followed her through the security doors and down the corridor to her room. She knocked and stepped inside "Nina?" she questioned. Billy's hand suddenly slipped into mine and I looked up at him "Don't be nervous" I told him
"Right, I'll be back in half an hour" the receptionist told us and I looked to Billy before letting go of his hand and walking inside, Stacey and Billy followed "Hey Mom"
"Katrina" she stood up from the chair and came to give me a hug
"I erm, I bought some friends with me" she let go of me and looked behind me at Billy and Stacey "Hi Ms Carter"
"Stacey.. Lovely to see you again darling. Please it's Nina" she smiled and then her eyes landed on Billy "And, well this is Billy" I told her. Her face dropped and so did my heart as I watched her reaction. Billy looked pale but he stepped forward and put his hand out "It's nice to meet you Ms Carter" My Mother studied his hand for a moment before looking up at his face. Billy dropped his hand "You're the boy that drove Kat across the country to find Peter?" she questioned him
"Yes" he replied unsure. She nodded before looking at me
"Kat?" she questioned
"I just thought, you should meet him" I licked over my lips "He's a good person Mom" she pursed her lips and I looked to Billy. Stepping over to him "I should go right?" he whispered and I nodded, my eyes starting to water. Why did I think it would be a good idea to bring Billy here without warning my Mom first "Just wait in reception. I'll see you in a minute" he nodded before looking over at my Mom and smiling weakly at her. He left, closing the door behind him and I took a deep breath before turning back to smile at Mom and Stacey "I'm sorry Mom I didn't mean to upset you" she sat down in the chair
"I thought you weren't supposed to see him again? I told you I wanted you to stay away from him" I looked to Stacey before turning to Mom "Where's Steve?" she asked suddenly
"Me and Steve aren't together anymore" I informed her "I.. Well, there's no easy way to tell you this but. I'm in love with Billy. I love him Mom" she looked up at me before Stacey spoke
"Nina?" she looked to her "Billy's great. You should see them together. He really cares about her" I bit my tongue waiting for my Mom to reply. She looked up at him "I guess I don't know him. All I know is that he took my Daughter half way across the country and we didn't have a clue where you were" I licked over my lips
"But that's partly my fault to" I told her "I chose to leave and not say where I was going" she smiled weakly "Go and get him back here" she told me and I grinned
"Thank you" I told her and then mimed it to Stacey as I left to go and get Billy. He was sat on a chair in reception. His chin resting in his hands. He looked up when the main door opened and I beckoned him over "She wants to try again" I told him when he came to me. We walked back to the room and I sat on the bed as my Mom and him shook hands for real this time "You are handsome" she told him "I can see why Kat is so smitten" I parted my lips and widened my eyes as Billy looked over at me smirking slightly "I'm sorry if I worried you when I took Kat to California" he told her "I just wanted to help her" She nodded
"I understand" she told him. The nurse knocked on the door and poked her head in
"Times up" I stood up and gave my Mom a hug
"I'll see you soon" I told her
"Ok Darling" Stacey gave her a hug as well and said Goodbye and then when it was Billy's turn to say his goodbyes she pulled him into an unexpected hug "Look after her for me" she told him "Of course" he replied before letting her go and coming to my side taking my hand. I smiled as I closed the door and we all headed to sign out.

We got into the Camaro and Billy started it up "How does milkshake sound?" Billy questioned looking from me to Stacey "Milkshake sounds great" I replied as he backed out of the space and tore out of the parking lot. We got to the diner in town and ordered. I sat beside Stacey in the booth "Thank you" I told her wrapping my arms around her
"I owe it to you Kat" she mumbled "I was a shitty friend and I'm really sorry"
"Just stop apologising it's over" I told her
"I think I owe you an apology as well Hargrove" she pulled out of our hug
"Don't sweat it Stacey. Like Kat said It's over with" she smiled
"Well can I at least give you a hug" Billy raised an eyebrow but stood up anyway allowing Stacey to lean across the table to hug my Boyfriend. I smiled at them when they parted "So I have a question Billy?" she stated "Why do you hate Steve so much?" Billy smirked
"Good question... He's a dick"
"That's not a reason" she replied. Billy pushed his empty milkshake away
"What happened to you anyway Stacey? You used to be a bit of a badass when I first arrived" she took a sip of her milkshake before replying "It's Senior year, I figured if I want to go to college I need to stop skipping classes" I finished my shake "What about you anyway? Are you going to college?" Billy seemed stumped by the question but then smiled easily
"Haven't really given it much thought" he stated standing up "I'm gonna go pay for these milkshakes" he threw me the keys to his Camaro "You can warm the car up"

Sorry I haven't updated! I've been at Download Festival all weekend so haven't been home. I'm gonna post another chapter to make it up to y'all
