Chapter Thirty Five

I went straight to see Mom after school and just as Dr Green promised he was there and we had a lengthy discussion about family therapy which my Mom agreed to almost instantly. We'd set a date for next week and I was really looking forward to finally talking things through with her. Everything that had happened in the past and of course whatever I had in mind for the future, including moving away from Hawkins. Afterwards I headed straight back to school to watch the basketball game. Steve was playing poorly and I knew why, he kept looking up at me in the stands. Did I feel bad? kind of but if anything I've done him a favour. I really didn't like how much that sounded like Steve after I found out that he was just pretending to like me so I wouldn't get back with Billy. Someone squeezed into the seat next to me bringing me out of my thoughts. I looked over to see it was in fact Billy "I'm not talking to you until you apologise to Johnathan" he smirked "Oh come on babe, he kissed you, I'm not just going to let that slide"
"Actually, I kissed him" he wrapped an arm around me and pulled me close to him
"I already apologised to him in the heads office we talked it out" I looked up at him
"Really?"
"Would I lie to you?" I laughed at the question
"Probably. What are you doing here anyway? "
"Just showing my support for the team" I rolled my eyes at the obvious lie "I'm here because you're here" I pressed my lips to his jaw
"Were you in a lot of trouble?"
"No, wasn't supposed to be here anyway so the head was actually pretty surprised to see me on campus" The final whistle blew. We'd lost the game "They suck when I'm not playing for them" Billy stated as he stood up "I'm going to go rub it in" he slid out of the stand and headed onto the court placing his arms around Josh and Jason's shoulders. I noticed Steve walking off in the opposite direction towards the doors that lead out to the car lot. Stacey was following him so I decided to head down there as well. I could hear Stacey shouting at him to slow down "What do you want Stace?" he asked her as I opened the doors to listen
"I just wanted to make sure that you're ok?"
"I'm fine Stace... I get it. Kat was just helping me out.. Perfect opportunity for her to get back at me for what we did to her" I decided to stay inside until Stacey came back in, and when she did she gave me a look to say I should go appologise before walking by me back towards the stands. I headed out to where he was stood by his Car searching in his gym bag for his keys "Steve?" he looked up at me "Come to rub it in?" I sighed
"No I came to say I'm sorry" he stopped searching and looked up "And I'm sorry for not forgiving you for trying to protect me" he stopped searching for his keys and looked across at me
"Yeah, well. Whatever it's over. We're all square yeah? " I nodded at him as he started searching in his bag again "Did you want to talk some more?" I nodded and he turned and unlocked his Car after finally finding his keys. I walked around to the passenger side and got in "So? How's your Mom?" Steve asked
"She's doing really well, we're starting family therapy next week so we can finally talk about some stuff" Steve smiled at me
"You know I kind of knew everything would end with Nance sooner or later. Her and Johnathan have been through a lot together" I didn't really know what he was talking about. Or why the sudden change in conversation. I knew that Nancy was involved with whatever happened to Johnathan's younger brother and I knew that she'd messed both Steve and Johnathan around before. The passenger side door suddenly opened "Harrington" Billy was stood there, leaning into the Car "Stace told me I'd find you here babe" he said looking at me
"Do you guys need a ride home?" Steve asked, starting the car. Billy pulled out his packet of cigarettes "You trying to be insulting?" he asked "We're heading to Jason's place, he's throwing a party so the team can drown their sorrows.. Shouldn't you be there?" Steve shook his head
"I'll see you later Kat.. Be careful" I lent over and hugged him not caring that it probably made him extremely uncomfortable "I'll see you at School" I got out of the Car and walked around to Billy who slipped his fingers into mine as he smoked his cigarette "So, where are your crutches?"
"I told you I don't need them, my casts coming off tomorrow anyway" we walked hand in hand to the other side of the parking lot where Jennifer was parked up. Her and Stacey were still in their cheer uniforms "Finally.. Let's go" she announced opening the Car up. We all piled in and Jen drove us to Jason's place.
