Chapter Thirty Seven

After school I went to watch the basket ball game which wasn't that entertaining but kept me distracted for a while. I noticed that Jen and Stacey were taking ages to get changed so I went down into the changing rooms to find them and see what the hell they were playing at.

When I pushed open the door I saw Jason, he had Jennifer up against the lockers "What the hell?!" I announced looking at Stacey who was looking pretty scared
"Get out of here Katrina!" Jason shouted over without looking at me. Steve suddenly burst into the room and went to grab Jason but he swung around and punched Steve "Jason, what the hell are you doing?" I shouted as he grabbed Jennifer again
"You guys, you should all leave" Jennifer announced, she looked frightened and I could feel the anger surging through me "Get the hell off of her" I pulled Jason around and shoved him out of the changing room doors. He stumbled slightly "What are you playing at?" I asked him
"What am I playing at? What are you playing at?" I raised my eyebrow at him "You're just pissed because your ain't shit boyfriend skipped town" I stiffened my jaw and before I could even think about what I was doing I punched him in the jaw. I heard a crack and he fell to the floor "Hey, hey Kat" Steve grabbed my arms to stop me doing anymore damage "Come on we've got to go" I looked to Jennifer who was crying "I'm serious.. We all have to get out of here now" I shrugged out of Steve's grip "Jen are you alright?" I asked her
"No I'm not fucking alright... He hit me" I felt my body boil up with anger again
"Kat.. Come on you really can't afford to get suspended" I took a deep breath as I stared down at Jason "You're real lucky Billy isn't here" I sneered at him "You're not going to get away with this. I promise you" I kicked him in the side for good measure and watched him groan before walking down the corridor and out of the building. Once I was outside I waited by Steve's car. He soon arrived along with Stacey who was helping a very upset Jennifer. She came up to me and wrapped her arms around me "Thank you Kat. If you hadn't have come when you did it might have ended very differently" I hugged her back but didn't say anything
"We're going to the head tomorrow" Stacey informed me. Jennifer looked up
"No..We can't. He'll kill me" Stacey looked at Jennifer
"You won't have to go to the head.. I'll sort this" I told her as Steve unlocked his car
"Everyone get in" Steve drove us out of the school yard and started heading towards Penny's
"Can I stay with you guys tonight?" Jennifer asked "I can't go home...What if he comes over" Stacey sighed.. We both knew Penny would be suspicious and start asking questions "How about I stay at yours with you?" I asked
"Will you?"
"Of course... If he shows up I'll sort him out" Jennifer made me a make shift bed on her floor with a spare duvet and a sleeping bag "So..." I went to ask her about Jason
"Please. I don't want to talk about it... Why don't you tell me what happened to Billy? I thought he said he wasn't going?" I sighed
"He wasn't going.. His Dad got Jim Hopper to escort him to the airport and they got someone to watch him off the plane at the other end" Jennifer was silent "I'm never going to see him again"
"Look I'm not going to be that person who tells you you're being silly or that of course you'll see him again because I don't know that" I stared up at the ceiling "But I know he loves you" I turned on to my side "I need to speak to Neil" I told her
"Do you really think that's a good idea?" Jennifer asked me
"Hopper told me he'll arrest me if I go anywhere near the Hargroves"
"That's stupid.. We'll figure something out"
"I guess" I closed my eyes and tried to get some sleep

The next morning I woke up to Jennifer stomping around "What time is it?" I asked
"Seven.. Have you seen my face? We need to go over to Stacey's. She's good with make up" I sat up and stretched looking over at Jennifer "Jesus Jen!" she had a huge bruise just under her right eye "I mean yeah Stacey is great with make up but I don't think she's going to be able to cover that" she flared her nostrils at me "I mean... She might be able to. But the bruise might work in your favour.. Especially if a teacher notices" she shook her head
"Just get up we're going to Stacey's"

Stacey did her best at fixing Jennifer's face and I was quite impressed with her work. There was only a slight purple hue and I doubted that anyone would notice it unless they were really staring at her. When we arrived at school we hung out in the parking lot for a while.. We'd all vowed not to leave Jenn unaccompanied "Why did he hit you anyway Jen?" Steve asked her as I sat up on the hood of her ford, smoking a cigarette. A car pulled up in the lot that I recognised and Max got out of the passenger side. I looked into the front window seeing Neil, Billy's Dad and our eyes connected and I slid off of the bonnet and stood up just as he backed out of the lot "Kat.. come on we're going to be late" I turned to Steve and followed him into the school with all of the other students. Jason was in our math class and I spent the whole lesson staring into the back of his head. I looked to Steve "Where does Jason get his drugs from?" I whispered
"Why would I know that?" I shrugged as the bell sounded ending the lesson. I followed Jason out and Steve nudged me "He's being unusually quiet today" he whispered to me
"Yeah.." I had Chemistry next with Jennifer so I took it upon myself to ask her the same question "Tommy, he gets them from him. Why?" I shrugged
"Just wondered" Tommy used to hang out with us, along with his girlfriend Carol but they hated that Steve and Nancy started dating and there was some sort of fight so they don't really associate themselves with us anymore.

At lunch I went to the side of the school by the gym where Tommy tended to hang out "Would you look who it is" Tommy came over "What can I do for you?" I smirked
"I heard you might be selling something I want?" I told him. He looked behind him at Carol who was snapping her gum as she watched us both "You heard from who?"
"It doesn't matter. Look are you going to sell to me or not?" he looked back at Carol who just shrugged "Fine.. How much do you want?" After the transaction was complete I took the little baggie of white powder and headed to find Steve "Where have you been?" he asked me as I approached our usual table "Had to see the councillor about something" I grabbed Jennifer and pulled her away from the group "What's up?" she asked me
"I need you to come with me to the gym lockers" she looked back at Stacey
"What now?" I dragged her away
"Hey where are you going now?" Steve called out
"We'll be back in a minute" At the locker rooms I went into the men's and checked there wasn't anybody in there before pulling Jennifer in "Which locker is Jason's?"
"Jason's?"
"Jen just trust me" she sighed and pulled me round to the other side of the lockers and stopped in front of one "It's this one"
"Do you know his combination?" she shook her head
"No worries" I pulled the baggie of cocaine out of my bag and slipped it through the crack in the door "What the hell!" Jennifer announced
"This is going to work. We're getting him expelled" we left the locker rooms just as the bell rang signalling the end of lunch.

After school I went to find Johnathan "Hey buddy" he was with Nancy and she was giving me a dirty look "I need a favour" he tilted his head "I need you to tell the head that Jason Wright has drugs in his gym locker" Nancy stepped forward
"No he's not getting involved with your schemes Katrina" I rolled my eyes at her
"Listen here. You both owe me"
"How do we owe you exactly?" she asked
"I got you two back together.. It's just one tiny favour... You tell the head this and you'll be seen as star students or whatever" they both looked at each other "Look. Jason hit Jennifer last night. He's been taking drugs for a while and he can't get away with this.. I saw the drugs in his locker. If I tell the head she won't believe me. I don't think she'd ever trust me in a million years"
"What were you doing in the guys locker room?" Nancy asked. Of course she'd question that
"I was looking for Steve" I lied and they seemed to believe it
"Fine.. Ok. But after this favour you leave us the hell alone for the rest of the school year got it?" Nancy asked "You got it Princess" I joked and she rolled her eyes before her and Johnathan headed back towards the school building.
