Chapter 42

*Kanika Pov*

"You sound tired. Is there too much work?" I asked Anitha while climbing down the stairs and paused when I found him sitting in the living room on the couch with his laptop.

It was just a brief pause as I didn't expect anyone to be at the house during the afternoon time but I continued to walk towards the kitchen while hearing Anitha complaining that she is tired.

"Take some rest before going to work." I mumbled opening the refrigerator only to frown.

"What are you doing?" she asked sighing.

"I forgot to buy groceries yesterday and so searching if there is anything to eat. Nothing seems to be there and so I have to go out to buy some things." I replied closing the door.

"Okay! Eat something and I will take a nap." She mumbled and I said goodbye before cutting the call.

With a sigh, I stared at the refrigerator thinking about what to buy now after going out, and was about to turn around but felt a presence behind me.

Before I could take a step away, he opened the door still standing behind me and that just locked me within the space between him and the appliance.

"Nothing is there?" he asked calmly and I stared at the vegetables overflowing in the below rack and bread on the above rack.

There are also a few dishes that were prepared by the helper in the other racks along with some juice on the side racks.

"I didn't buy or prepared any of this." I stated turning around to stare at him and he stared back still holding the door with one hand.

"What?" he asked frowning.

"Wasn't that a rule you mentioned that our purchases should be different?" I asked and he just stared at me.

"Then what about these few months?" He asked and I gave him a nod as I was already thinking about you.

"You can count the money I spent for myself on the groceries that were bought by your card. I will compensate for the money that will be my share." I replied and he blinked at my words.

"You want me to sit down and count how much was spent and for what?" He asked and I gave a simple nod.

"And who used which item and make a list?" He added and I gave him another nod.

"And then ask you to pay me the money?" he asked slowly and I gave him a nod hearing his question.

He closed his eyes and finally closed the door before rubbing his forehead while I took a step aside and started walking out of the kitchen.

"Kanika! You do know that I didn't follow such restrictions after we got close, right?" His question stopped me from moving.

Why is he again bringing up that incident? It's already been a few weeks since the day we had that conversation in the car where I stated that he should be my employer and I will just be his employee until the contract ends.

After that, he didn't try to talk to me and we didn't even meet more than once a day even though we are staying in the same house. He was busy with his work and I was busy with the assignments Han is dropping on my lap.

I thought a year will pass like that and anyway, one month already passed in that remaining year. But here he is bringing up that incident again and I don't know how to make him understand that he need not think about it at all.

I turned around to stare at him and found him looking at me with a serious look. I nodded saying, "I know! And that was why I had a few expectations."

"However, that was a mistake on my part, and to not have any such mistake repeat, I need to make sure to keep the lines drawn by you in a strong way." I explained while he just frowned.
