Jay walked fast in an attempt to outpace Stevie.
"What happened?" Stevie asked. "If you don't tell me, I'll just find out myself!"
"Go tell everybody else about Kate." Jay murmured, not wanting to speak with her at the moment. "I'm tired."
"But-"
"Stevie." Jay stared at her and Stevie sighed, walking away.
Jay went to their room and climbed onto her bed, quickly falling asleep.
[...]
When Jay awoke, all she could see was black in all directions. She got to her feet, stumbling. She glanced down; What she was standing on was solid. It was shiny and black, like obsidian.
Jay glanced over and saw what seemed like a small nest of gemstones and, sitting on the pile was a small, young-looking girl with pale skin and long, ebony hair that was curly and fell down her back. Her eyes were closed and she was humming and conducting with a finger. Jay could see what looked like gemstones embedded in her shoulders and forehead.
"Uh.." Jay blinked. "Who are you?"
The girl gasped, her eyes opening, surprised. They were the same teal-green as the gemstones. "Oh! Who, me? I'm uh...just a nobody, hanging out here." She shuffled. "I hope you don't mind."
"Uh...where is...'here'?" Jay looked around.
"OH!" The girl blinked. "It's you're headspace!"
"So you're...in my head?" Jay crossed her arms.
"Sort of." The girl hummed. "I'm like, hmm...an embodiment of that gemstone." She smiled. "That's a nice title. You can call me Gem, if you want."
"Uh..." Jay glanced away. "Okay."
She paused. "If you're...the gemstone...why did...why'd you make me kill Jim?"
Gem looked down. "I'm sorry, I just...it was hot, and I panicked and I was uncomfortable, so..."
Jay frowned. "I hate children."
"I'm not a child!" Gem yelped. "I'll have you know that I have been here longer than this planet has."
"Hm." Jay blinked disbelievingly. "Okay."
"I have!" Gem huffed. "I'm really, really old!"
"Alright." Jay said, raising her eyebrows. "I'll pretend to believe that."
"You're waking up." Gem mumbled. "Uh, bye, I guess."
"..Bye?" Jay blinked and gasped as she woke up.
