Chapter Thirty-Six

Stevie had been pacing in front of her room while the others reworked through the plan again. Another hour had went by. Nine hours. Jay had been stuck with the gemstone for nine hours. Panic had started to set in and Stevie was trying her best not to breathe to quickly, or else she might start hyperventilating, and she didn't want to pass out again, for who knew how long...
Kim kept trying to reassure her, but Stevie was too panicked at this point and after a while, her legs began to hurt and she needed to sit down.
"You alright?" Kim asked, looking worried.
"No!" Stevie burst out. "Jay's been in the gemstone for nine hours, Goose said he wasn't even sure if she could last for a day.."
"It's getting late." Kim worried. "You need some rest."
"I got some rest." Stevie pouted.
"Some rest that isn't panic or shock-induced." Kim corrected, frowning. "Everybody's been working pretty hard since you woke up, remember. You can't blame them if they've started to slow down, by now almost all of them would've been asleep."
"Goose is awake!" Stevie said.
"Goose doesn't sleep." Kim informed her. "It's like he got some combination between nocturnal and not-nocturnal, and now he doesn't sleep at all."
"Aelia isn't slowing down...as much..." Stevie argued.
"Well, Aelia is part scorpion, so she's also nocturnal."
"Then why is she slowing down?" Stevie mumbled.
"She's been awake all day, Stevie." Kim hummed gently. "Everybody needs some rest, or else we could plan something wrong, and then we might end up putting Jay in even more danger."
Stevie sighed. "Alright." She murmured. "Two hours. I'm going to sleep for two hours, and then I'm going to keep working, even if everybody else is still sleeping."
"That's all I ask." Kim nodded.
