When Stevie woke up, she was back in her room. Maybe...maybe it was all a dream?
Nope. Kim poked her head into the room. "Are you alright?" She asked, looking concerned.
"No." Stevie mumbled. She couldn't help but feel hopelessness overwhelm her. "Jay is trapped in the gemstone. Kate betrayed us!"
Kim shrugged. "It's not all bad." She said. "Things could be worse."
"What?" Stevie asked, irritated.
"Huh?" Kim blinked.
"What could be worse?"
"Well..." Kim looked thoughtful for a moment. "We could've lost both Goose and Kim, and then we wouldn't know to close off the gemstone and then Kate would still be able to control me and Aelia." Kim said. "Or," She shifted her weight, "One of us could've fallen in. Or.."
"Alright." Stevie sighed. "I give up, your imagination is too great."
"Awh, thank you!" Kim gave a small smile. "If it helps, we're trying to make a plan to help save Jay."
"Good." Stevie crossed her arms.
Kim chuckled and then looked away, her happy demeanor leaving, if only just for a moment. "I lost somebody to the gemstone, too, if Jim counts at all. And I'd like to say I lost Kate, too. At least, nice Kate. Sometimes she was nice to me, and I really thought we were friends." She let out a long sigh and her shoulders fell. "I hope she's okay."
Stevie blinked at her. "Aren't you angry?"
"Oh, sure." Kim frowned. "I'm angry at a lot of things. I'm angry at me for letting this happen. I'm angry at Jim for dying. I'm angry at Prophecy for everything, I'm angry at the Gemstone for, well, being the gemstone, I'm angry at Kate for the stunt she pulled, I'm angry at Goose for that stunt he pulled, I'm angry at Jay for irking Al, I'm angry at Al for listening to Kate, I'm angry at..."
Stevie listened to Kim rant about everything she was angry about, nodding. Stevie was surprised; Kim seemed so happy and bubbly and nice, and Stevie wasn't aware that she was capable of experiencing this much anger.
"...But mostly," Kim sighed, "I'm angry at the world, for throwing us into this situation. But only some of the things I listed could be helped. I understand that what Kate did was wrong, but I'm thinking about all the factors here. We know she's been under the effect of the gemstone for a very, very long time. We know that the gemstone can change a person. We know that Kate doubting the idea of being saved in the first place. We know that Kate didn't have the...best...upbringing. We know that Kate still has the mentality of a five year old. Thinking about it, it's very possible that the gemstone gave an order at Kate just...did what she's used to doing." Kim inhaled. "So I'm really, really, REALLY mad at the gemstone, and a little bit mad at Kate, but I can see the reasoning behind it."
"...Wow." Stevie said. "You're really good at empathy, I'm starting to think that you're the one with double the moral compass."
"Who knows?" Kim laughed, her bubbly nature returning. "I went through an experiment, too. Maybe I'm just as morally right as you are! Then again," Kate thought about it, "I'm a mom, too, and you have to know empathy to teach it."
"That might've been the most I've ever heard you say." Stevie laughed.
"Oh, that's just me." Kim smiled sheepishly. "I'm a bit of a chatterbox."
"Does this...uh..." Stevie shuffled. "Does this mean we're friends? I'm attached already."
"Oh, definitely! What, did you think I vented all that to you for nothing?" Kim nudged her. "We'll get through this, save Jay and Kate, and have a blast while doing it. No more sulking or passing out, got it?"
"I'll try." Stevie smiled.
