There was a small, locked gate covering the hole when Stevie went to see it. Goose was still inside going back over and revising the plan, and Stevie had convinced Kim to take her to the hole. It had taken almost two hours for them to make the plan, marking almost eight hours that Jay had been trapped with the gemstone. Stevie sat by the edge on the covered hole. "We'll get you out, Jay." She murmured. "I promise."
She sighed, wondering how Jay was doing. Stevie hoped that she was alright, and holding up well.
"If it helps at all..it probably won't..." Kim shuffled her feet. "When Kate was controlling me, I got her to tell me some things about the gemstone."
"Really?" Stevie asked.
Kim nodded. "Kate had her own little theory about it, although I think she stole part of it from someone else." She shifted her weight. "She said that age probably was a factor in how long it took for one to be, uh, corrupter, I suppose," She said, "And also their morals, and their willpower. "Oh?" Stevie blinked. Jay was the same age as Stevie, which was 16. She didn't have the best moral compass...or one at all, actually, but Stevie found Jay very string-willed when she wanted to be, which was usually when insisting that Stevie was below average height.
Jay also knew about how the gemstone was definitely evil.
"She should be fine for a while, right?" Stevie looked up at Kim. "At least a day, right?"
"Actually," Stevie jumped and turned to see Goose walking up to them. "I don't mean to be pessimistic but if we're thinking about the fact that Jay's morals are non-existent I'd say we have three days, at the most, and I'm not sure what the least is, but I'd say a day and a half to be the most accurate."
"GOOSE!" Kim yelled, horrified.
Stevie stared at him in horror. "Then-we have to hurry! Oh, no..."
Aelia walked up to them, facepalming. "Leave it up to this knucklehead to panic everybody."
"Hey!" Goose scowled. "I'm being honest."
"You know, I really thought Stevie was the one who couldn't lie." Aelia said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Is being honest a good thing?!" Goose asked.
"Well, I guess you tell the truth," Aelia huffed, "Even when people wish you WOULDN'T."
"We only have three days!" Stevie curled herself into a ball. "Oh, no, Jay..."
Kim sat down beside Stevie and embraced her in a hug that lasted for a long time. Stevie felt herself calm down, but only a little bit. Jay...
